WASHINGTON — U.S. and European officials have begun quietly talking to the Ukrainian government about what possible peace negotiations with Russia might entail to end the war, according to one current senior U.S. official and one former senior U.S. official familiar with the discussions.
The conversations have included very broad outlines of what Ukraine might need to give up to reach a deal, the officials said. Some of the talks, which officials described as delicate, took place last month during a meeting of representatives from more than 50 nations supporting Ukraine, including NATO members, known as the Ukraine Defense Contact Group, the officials said.
The Neocons will very likely find the Russian terms of surrender to be MUCH TOUGHER than they were last year. Hopefully they’ll learn a LESSON from that.
If the Vindman brothers, “Flounder” and Shyster had gone home to fight with their countrymen, the Ukies may have been able to pull this one out against the Russki Rookies.
“Go to a cease fire...put in a line just like we/they did in Korea...and stop the senseless killing. But “Z” is obsessed with killing any and all Russians in Ukraine.”
I agree, of course, with your comment regarding Z, but it’s hard to imagine the Russians being willing to freeze the conflict, just to have to fight in a few more years against a Ukraine that will then be part of NATO.
“Funny how anyone listening to alternative news sources knew for a long time that the war was lost for Ukraine.”
The war was lost the moment the ‘sanctions’ failed. Now a lot more than just this war is lost for the West.
So Russia will get the provinces it wants, plus Ukraine will not enter NATO — sort of like its original objective.
Democrats/Joe’s policy will have caused the deaths of hundreds of thousands, many more wounded, Ukraine destroyed, millions of refugees, Europe’s economy destroyed, massive US debt, China shown Russia’s military weakness, US shown as a feckless ally with limits of US power demonstrated yet again, new weapons (cheap drones) demonstrated for terrorists to acquire and deploy, immense release of greenhouse gases when the US blew up the Nordstream pipeline, etc.
It is as if a demented criminal buffoon was running things. Heck of a job, BIDEN.
Negotiate a refund to the US taxpayers.
Guessing we’re going to leave behind military equipment and ammo and our oil reserves to be used against us come WWIII.
It is said, the Internet is 'forever.' One looks back at the Davydov opus -- before YouTube will start hiding things -- to find one of the patented Davydov special titles -- "Update from Ukraine | BIG WIN for Ukraine Today -- 5/16/2022"
Seven months ago, and prayerfully passed to us the same day on Free Republic. "BIG WIN."

“The problem is they have given Russia utterly no incentive to settle for anything less than a full restoration of Russia’s pre 1918 borders with Ukraine. That would mean Kharkov and Odessa and the entire Black Sea Coast.”
Beyond that, any ‘settlement’ will very likely call for full UN recognition of Russia’s new borders, which is far beyond anything they discussed prior to the Neocons starting this war.
Says the Putin Fanboi. Here Russian AFV with dismounts riding ontop explodes near Ukrainian trench (NSFW)(NSFL) are some Russian Soldiers having a hard day going into combat in a BTR-50.
For the Putin Fanbois, I will draw attention to the relationship between the "50" in BTR-50, anf the "50" in 1950. Nothing says RUSSIA STRONG like sending guys into combat, in 2023, in Stalin Era AFVs. But hey, at least they still have some more modern artillery support, with Khrushchev Era tubes firing NORK munitions.
Repeating my comment on another thread:
Under the present conditions and leadership, I see little reason for the Russians to be open to negotiations. Ending the war now would leave a militant, aggressive power on their border. Why stop when with a few more months your enemy may collapse?
This war will end in one of two ways. The Ukraine army revolts and stages a coup to replace the government or the army becomes too weak to hold on and are pushed back beyond the Dnieper river.
Once either of those occurs, the peace terms will be:
1. Disarmament of Ukraine.
2. Guarantees that Ukraine will not join NATO and that NATO will be responsible for policing this disarmament.
3. Removal of sanctions and return of Russian assets.
Until there’s agreement on these terms, there is no reason for the war to stop from the Russian point of view.
We had that in our city and it remains to this day....except that....the division is/was Ukrainian and Polish. Ukrainians and Russians lived side by side.
Yeah, I remember when the NeoCon tanks crossed the border into Russia. /sarcasm
If you can't lie better than that, perhaps you ought to tell the truth, hard as that might be to on Putin Fanboism. At least you would not show yourself to be a liar and a loser.
“Says the Putin Fanboi.”
Personal attacks have NO PLACE on this forum. Please stick to discussing issues here.
If Russia gives back Donbass and Crimea, I see no reason why Ukraine wouldn’t sign the peace treaty.
If not, we simply keep sending them arms until Russia is humiliated.

$1 trillion in property damage.
Hundreds of thousands of young lives lost or permanently damaged.
All because of the propaganda fantasy that Putin was trying to restore the former Soviet Union.
Thanks to natural resource wealth, the current Russian government enjoyed more opulence than the Tsars!
And, we are supposed to believe that they risked it all to restore the 24-7 migraine headache of maintaining the Soviet Union?
you cannot ‘negotiate’ with terrorists and russia under putin is a terrorist state
Japan and Germany learned how to accept demands. Reality is a bitch.
This war has been going on since 2014. What was the Obama/Biden Administration’s reaction to the first Russian invasion in 2014 that annexed Crimea?
The average age of a Ukrainian soldier is 43. How many Ukrainians must be sacrificed in an unwinnable war?
