China’s stance on Middle East issues remains at the level of atmospherics. Beijing scores points in the Global South at minimal cost. But China’s role could become far more important.
As Zhang, the professor quoted above, observes, China could play a pivotal role in the refugee crisis. One specific refugee crisis that China might help resolve is Gaza.
The obvious solution to the Gaza problem was proposed to Egypt’s late President Sadat by Israeli Prime Minister Menachem Begin in 1978: Egypt should annex Gaza, and resolve the refugee crisis by naturalizing the Gazans. Sadat refused, and Western diplomats have never pursued this alternative.
Egypt is very poor, with two-fifths of its population living on $3 a day. It already has a jihadist problem with the local Muslim Brotherhood, the parent organization of Hamas. It has jailed 40,000 Brotherhood activists. It doesn’t need more.
If Israel can dismember Hamas, however, Egypt’s main objection to annexing Gaza would be economic. That is something that China, working together with the Gulf States, could solve. China already is deeply engaged in Egypt, building infrastructure and a new high-tech city.
If China wanted to establish a leading role in the Middle East, assisting Egypt and Israel in resolving the Gaza crisis in this fashion might denote a diplomatic revolution.

I wonder if Mid East Muslims know how Chinese Muslims are treated?
Hard to see with Xi's cash flashing in their faces. But temporary alliances to further the larger goal of weakening the USA and Europe never bothered any of the participants.
Same with Muslims in Russia vis a vis Putin, whose also a Communist.
The idea that Egyptian President Sisi - who risked his own life to evict the Muslim Brotherhood from Cairo - is going to deliberately annex 2.4 million civilian jihadis in the Gaza Strip is completely delusional.

BACKSTORY-—Both the Trump and Biden administrations had restricted sensitive technological exports to China. As a result, China turned to cooperative Israel. China’s direct investment in Israel’s IT industry, especially in chips and semiconductors, now has increased.
In 2017, Israeli PM Netanyahu said China accounts for one-third of the investment in Israeli high technology, which includes US military technology the US shares w/ Israel, its strongest ally. In the ’90s, Israel sold military equipment and technologies to China, including the Harpy missile system.
This incident chilled relations between the United States and Israel, with Israel being suspended from its status as Security Cooperative Participant in the Joint Strike Fighter program. However, on 6 November 2005, Israel stated that it has been re-admitted into the program.
The US had to pressure Israel to stop sharing US military technology w/ China. Yet Israel still doesn’t restrict China from acquiring dual-usage technologies that could have military implications against the US.
A succession of US administrations warned Israel about its growing tie with China, sharing concern about China using Israel as a backdoor to access sensitive technologies from the US.
The most vocal objection to Sino-Israeli ties came from the Trump administration. When former Secy of State Mike Pompeo visited Israel in 2019, he warned Israelis that the CCP “engages in spying through its commercial state-owned enterprises and presents risk through its technology systems. Pompeo said China’s actions posed a risk.
Unfortunately, Israel largely brushed aside the warnings. Like many other countries, China’s massive market has enticed Israel. Plus, the Israeli government hopes China’s good relationships with Arab nations may help Israel.
This year, Netanyahu was working on a Sino-Israeli free trade agreement and planned to visit China. But China’s siding w/ Hamas should wake up Israel’s leaders to the reality that Communist China’s relationship with Israel is purely transactional.
The Chicoms could move all those Palis into the ghost cities they have…..
A NEW HIGH TECH CITY can be turned to RUBBLE, also.
—”Is the Asia Times an official mouth piece of the Chinese Communist Party?”
Asia times like everything from China is ‘watched’.
I have always enjoyed Goldman’s work (AKA Spengler).
It does appear that for anything questionable he refers to a Chinese source.
That said, an interesting view out of China, and always remember as you visit your oracle for ‘true news’:
“Everything the State says is a lie and everything it has it has stolen.”
Nietzsche
“Many too many are born: for the superfluous ones was the state devised!
See just how it entices them to it, the many-too-many! How it swallows and chews and rechews them!”
Thus Spake Zarathustra,
XI. THE NEW IDOL.
