The new Speaker of the House Mike Johnson once attributed the fall of the Roman Empire to homosexuality, resurfaced audio from 2008 has revealed.
Johnson suggests historians might consider the decline of Rome as partially related to a societal loss of morals and widespread homosexual behavior condoned during that period.
In the past, Johnson, a Louisiana Republican, has frequently disparaged homosexuality.
But it was during a radio interview he could be heard advocating for the criminalization of gay sex and went so far as to partially blame it for the fall of the Roman Empire.
Some credit to the fall of Rome to not only the deprivation of the society and the loss of morals, but also to the rampant homosexual behavior that was condoned by the society,' Johnson said.
'One of the primary sources of Johnson criticism has been his stance on LGBTQ issues, as he has been a consistent opponent of federal protections for same-sex marriage.
Johnson was once closely associated with Exodus International, a now-defunct group that promoted LGBTQ 'conversion therapy'.
The discredited practice aimed to change a person's sexual orientation or gender identity through various means, including prayer and counseling.
Exodus International was a highly controversial 'ex-gay' organization that ceased operations in 2013. The group's former president, Alan Chambers, issued an apology for the harm it had caused to the LGBTQ community.
Between 2006 and 2010, while Johnson was an attorney for the conservative legal advocacy group Alliance Defense Fund - an organization labeled as an extremist hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center because of its long-standing opposition to LGBTQ rights.

“””The National Archaeological Museum of Naples is an important Italian archaeological museum, particularly for ancient Roman remains. Its collection includes works from Greek, Roman and Renaissance times, and especially Roman artifacts from the nearby Pompeii, Stabiae and Herculaneum sites.””””
I highly recommend visiting this museum in Naples, Italy to see the many sexual artifacts from Pompeii when it was destroyed in 70 AD
The Roman Empire had morals? They used burning humans to light up their parties. Roadways were lined with men slowly dying from crucifixion. Their soldiers would stab a person for being in their way.
I’m liking Johnson more everyday.
He’s not the only one.
For the Roman empire, morals meant toughness and strength. Virtue meant manliness. Greek homosexuals could be pretty tough. The Romans became rich and comfortable and soft and frivolous. Roman homosexuality may have been an example of that, more a symptom of decline than the cause.
HE’S WRONG ON HISTORY DIVIDED EMPIRE, TRIBUTE TO BARBARIANS TO DEFEND THEM GROWING POPULATIONS EVERYWHERE WANTING THEIR OWN RULERS. , ASK YOURSELF WERE THERE HOMOSEXUALS ALL THE TIME,. YES. BUT THE EMPIRE LASTED 1000 YEARS GOVERNED BY 1 CITY. CAN WE SAY THE QUEERS MADE THEM STRONGER? IT’S AN OLD CHESTNUT TO SAY MORAL DECLINE ENDED THE EMPIRE WHEN CHRISTIANITY HAD BECOME SO WIDESPREAD. HOW WAS THAT POSSIBLE WITH ALL THOSE QUEERS RUNNING AROUND. THE EMOIRE ALWAYS RELIED ON LOCALS AND IT FINALLY DESTROYED THEM AS THE POPULATIONS IN THE HINTERLANDS KEPT INCREASING.
SORRY MY CAP LOCK KEY IS STUCK.
And? Prove him wrong.
I’ll address my question.
The tolerant period:
“In 63 B.C., the Romans conquered Judea, the land of the Jews. Rome immediately recognized it had a problem because the Jews refused to pay homage to Roman gods. Rome gave in and exempted Jews from this requirement. Rome did this in part because the Jews had helped Roman general Julius Caesar win an important battle several years earlier. Soon Rome recognized Judaism as a legal religion, allowing Jews to worship freely.”
The intolerant period:
Basically following the Jewish revolt.
For more on the Roman treatment of Christians and Jews, esp. during the first three centuries of the common era, see:
One more thing: The Romans weren’t the only political entity that thought first to accept Jews, in view of their industriousness, education and wealth (at times), and then turn on them. For more on Jews, see:

Yes, but the historians were talking more about a decline of civic responsibility than of private morality. It wasn't so much private vices in themselves, it was that they got in the way of public obligations and responsibilities. Earlier Romans hadn't been models of virtue in our sense, but they kept their impulses under control enough to conquer and rule a large part of the world.

Overall, the practice pf sodomy has (historically) resulted in
a greatly increased incidence of other infectious diseases and effects besides HIV, from Meningitis to premature death. Which diseases includes Chlamydia, Gonorrhea, Hepatitis A and B, HPV, Syphilis, HIV to Meningitis and body dysmorphia and eating disorders and recently Monkey pox. Gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men have accounted for 83% of primary and secondary syphilis cases where sex of sex partner was known in the United States. Gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men have been found to be 17 times more likely to get anal cancer than heterosexual men. (https://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/volumes/71/wr/mm7138a1.htm)Related to this is that,
The risk of becoming infected with HIV during condomless anal sex is 10 to 20 times greater than condomless vaginal sex. Because the rectal lining is only one-cell thick, the virus can more easily reach immune cells to infect. (https://www.mtnstopshiv.org/news/rectal-microbicides-fact-sheet)
Also reported, "People living with HIV in Canada had eight times the risk of Alzheimer’s disease and other non-AIDS-related dementia as their HIV-negative counterparts, and they were diagnosed 12.5 years earlier [which in part may be due to more medical attention], according to an analysis published in BMJ Open.
They also had higher rates of several other age-related chronic conditions....Antiretroviral treatment has been associated with kidney damage and cardiovascular disease, and viral hepatitis and alcohol use—both common among HIV-positive people—can cause liver disease." Point made in Johnson’s favor!
"Historians might consider the decline of Rome as partially related to a societal loss of morals and widespread homosexual behavior condoned during that period."Note the phrase "partially related to."
That phrase leaves a lot of wiggle room for any discussion of public obligation vs private vices.
As an aside, I agree that homosexuality was rampant in the Roman Empire since its establishment and in ancient Greece before it (at least in the form of pederasty).
“Homosexuals only care about their pleasure in life, no matter the cost to society.”
What? Are you against “life liberty and the pursuit of happiness”?
Isn’t that what every red blooded American conservative believes are their “god given rights”?
The homos, the trans, women that get nose jobs, etc. they are just using their freedom (liberty) to pursue their happiness.
Are you saying the founders were wrong in naming those three things as God given rights?
Or were they maybe a bit too generous and idealistic in the dispensing of “rights”? Maybe they should have added an asterisk referring to pages of fine print limiting those “rights”?
What do you think?
“2 genders to start with”
Let me correct you.
It’s 2 “sexes” not genders.
REFUSE to use the terms the left has perpetrated on our society.
A homeless person is a bum.
A rain forest is a jungle.
Climate change is weather.
A policeman, fireman, flagman, etc., can be a man or a woman.
the southern poverty law center is a hate group
“Historically, whenever a society reaches a critical mass of homosexuality and homosexual behavior, bad things start happening.”
Because.... it’s a symptom and a clear indication of how depraved and immoral and corrupted that nation has become. And then, God puts that nation under His judgment, accordingly. Historically, God has given such nations over to evil leaders. Hence, the current OBiden in the WH.
This was true, the beginning of the end was when rampant self satisfaction became rampant. The same is true of America. It seems like forever since abortion became widespread. Followed by promiscuity, buggery, pedophilia, and homo marriage. Now we have highly educated women who are too old to have children, and are not interested. Boys and men out to get jiggy with anything that jiggles, and 40-50 year old hedonists. The best thing in life is cruises, vacations, art, travel and vacationing...and sex... lots of sex.
My thoughts exactly. There is an episode of the Simpsons where cable TV went down, and the sun came out, the kids went out to play and animals frolicked. The same would be reality if the internet and cells went, communication satellites with them. It would be like the glue of snot on peoples eyes would dry and crack, as people found out about reality once more.
The increase of immorality in combination with uncontrolled immigration is what caused the collapse of the Western Roman Empire.
In the late fourth century AD, the Roman Caesars decided to allow huge masses of Germanic tribes to settle in northern Italy. These tribes were fleeing the massive horde of horse tribes from the EurAsian Steppe, in this case, the Huns.
It was big mistake. These Germanic tribes eventually took control, fragmenting the once great empire to pieces, until the rise of Garibaldi and the Italian unification a mere 150 years ago. One of these Germanic tribes was called the Lombards, and to this day one of Italy’s northern provinces is titled Lombardi, a stark reminder and testament to a disastrous immigration policy from more than 1,600 years ago.
Diversity is not a strength but a debilitating weakness to be avoided at all costs, and don’t let anyone tell you different. They speak with forked tongue.
