I thought the same thing. Son of Sam, etc...But there’s this human tendency to equate anything happening now with all time worsts. I have lost friends because they insisted California was paradise in the 1970’s instead of full of crime, serial killers, and the freaks in San Francisco.
That may be true, but I loved California when I was posted there for work in 2019-2020.
The only Anglo-Saxon walking the streets in Corona at 2am with my band of merry foreigners bar hopping. Chines, Indian, Italian, Aussie, German.

Mixed with, and shoot pool, drank, and laughed with MS-13, angry Trump hating Lesbians, Neo-Nazis, Black pot dealers.
Sometimes you find a middle ground. I thank the Gods for the Good Times.
