JD VANCE says he would not support authorizing military action in Iran

Sen. J.D. Vance (R-Ohio) said Sunday he would not support military action against Iran on its own soil right now as threats continue to increase on U.S. troops in the Middle East.

CBS’s Margaret Brennan asked Vance on “Face the Nation” if he would authorize the use of force by President Biden against Iran as attacks on U.S. troops are rising in the Middle East.

“Right now, absolutely not,” Vance said. “I think that we should be trying to deescalate the situation. Of course, we need to have red lines, though. If the Iranians attack American troops, if they play —”

“They have, multiple times,” Brennan interjected.

“If they play an escalatory role in the conflict, we need to be willing to respond,” Vance continued. “They have attacked, certain militia groups have attacked and I think we’ve done the right thing, a proportionate response. If they hit us, we have to hit them back but if you’re talking about an attack on the Iranian mainland, I think that would be a significant escalation right now, it would be a mistake.”

Biden ordered U.S. military forces on Friday to carry out “self-defense airstrikes” on a weapons storage facility and an ammunition storage area used by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and affiliated groups in eastern Syria.

There have been at least 19 attacks against U.S. and coalition forces in the Middle East over the past two weeks, including four times in Syria and 12 times in Iraq. There were also three new attacks on Thursday.

It is the mullahs, not Iran. If they go, that country could join our side. With the Shah we had an ally, where women did not cover their heads! That country is still there, perhaps.

Does he actually think that the Biden admin. would get Congress’s approval beforehand? Don’t hold your breath J.D.

“Where do you stand on a potential war with Iran?”

Potential war with Iran? You do know Iran has been At War with America/The West (ie Killed Americans) since 1979. You know that, right? Beirut Bombing 1983,Khobar Towers 1996, IED attacks in Iraq, ring a bell?
Maybe just MAYBE it might be time for both sides to fight?

We have spent enough blood and treasure in the Middle East. I believe the Persian threat to the homeland is an invention to drag us back over there.

Never again.

It’s probably the only option besides an all out ground war etc

"It" is no option at all.

The bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki occurred at the END of a long and bloody war which depleted Japan's manpower and resources.

Use of nuclear weapons against Iran would be completely different.

Peter Thiel (like many others in the Silicon Valley elite) has disdain for people. He believes people are too stupid to rule themselves and must be put under the wise rule of their betters. He thinks he is one of these betters.

That is why he feels sympathy for all the tyrannical places, where such neo-feudalist structures are in place and who promote such structures. The most prominent (but not the only one) building this is Putin. Putin is the Czar and has his Counts and Barons within Russia and dependent territories.

Thiel thinks he could be a Count to start with and due to his superior intelligence would surely Machiavelli himself to eventually be near supreme power.

Can you give me some links where he says that?

I’ll look too. However, since you say he thinks this you probably know where to look and can find it faster.

You’re playing games here. It’s like when a Sophisticated Jew-hater says they want “Palestine from a river to the sea” you’d demand their direct statement where they demand the massacre of all Jews. After all they might imagine this results in a multicultural paradise!

These games are both easy to play and stupid.

Actually, I was curious what was said that could be interpreted that way direct or otherwise.

So, you’d rather respond like an ass then be collegial. Ok fine!
