WASHINGTON (Reuters) -Newly elected U.S. Speaker of the House Mike Johnson said on Thursday that funding to support Ukraine and Israel should be handled separately, suggesting he will not back President Biden's $106 billion aid package for both countries.
Johnson, who was speaking in an interview on Fox News, said he met with Biden on Thursday and said he told White House staff "our consensus among House Republicans is we need to bifurcate those issues."
Biden wants Congress to provide $106 billion in supplemental funding, with the bulk of the money going to bolster Ukraine's defenses and the remainder split among Israel, Indo-Pacific and border enforcement.

RE: Well, I understood all funding bills must originate in the House....
They originate in a back room at Joe Biden’s Delaware mansion.
So protecting the sovereignty of Israel is worth 10 times as much as protecting the sovereignty of this country?
Only a very few in Congress understand that the Republic is broke. Monies given to Ukraine must be borrowed from Communist
China.
Our country is broken thanks to Biden-Obama and damned Rinos.
Tax bills must originate in House.
But not spending bills.
If a bill spends money but doesn’t change taxes, bill can originate in Senate.
“...all funding bills must originate in the House...”
-
Not so.
All bills for raising revenue must originate in the house.
-
Article I, Section 7, Clause 1:
All Bills for raising Revenue shall originate
in the House of Representatives;
but the Senate may propose or concur
with Amendments as on other Bills.
Yup!
Not at all, my point there was money to Ukraine needs to be indexed. Anyway, helping Israel is helping US or did you miss that, unlike Ukraine, Americans were killed, raped, and still held hostage. Either we declare war and track down and kill ever last member of Hamas or we paid Israel to do it.
A step in the right direction. Great first start. McRino McCarthy would have bent over and said thank you sir may I please have another
Doesn’t have to mean more money for Ukraine, could just be sanctions.
The House has the nation’s purse strings.
Speaker Johnson runs the House.
Make it so Mr. Speaker!
Not one cent for pervert Dick Tator Zelensky.
Could just be more good jobs for Americans as Russian influence and corruption is kicked out of Europe. But I guess it’s more fun to day dream about Making Russia Great Again for some.
.
Finally, some common sense!
.
Support for Ukraine is Neocon.
Support for Israel is Neocon.
Support for NATO and Taiwan is also Neocon.
No foreign aid. No exceptions. That's America First.
Bottom line is that right now, we have better things to spend our dwindling amount of money on than sending aid to a corrupt non-ally to fight off a possibly more corrupt neighbor. We can talk about Ukraine funding after the border is actually secured and we have begun cranking up the defense-critical industries like the neon gas that is now no longer being supplied by Ukraine to what’s left of our computer chip industries. Even if the Russians leave tomorrow, that supply is not going to be restored for years and years.

Karl Rove said the Republicans made it known to Johnson the Ukraine aid was non-negotiable. Before the Vote.
You’ve been gaslit. We’ve been sending mostly old junk to Ukraine. Now DOD is using “Ukraine money” to buy new gear for our military to replace the old surplus junk they were going to pay to destroy anyway.
I’ve been a conservative my entire life. I’ve never seen conservatives so beaten down and defeated that they can’t multi task two important issues that once. We can deal with the border and a revanchist Russia easily. Or we can just surrender as the armchair isolationist have always wanted. Conservatives must and will be better than that.
