18 dead, 13 wounded in Lewiston shootings as police continue to search for suspected gunman

18 dead, 13 wounded in Lewiston shootings as police continue to search for suspected gunman BY JOHN TERHUNESTAFF WRITER

At a press conference Thursday morning, police continued to offer few details about the manhunt for Robert Card of Bowdoin, who is suspected of killing 18 people Wednesday night.

Gov. Janet Mills and law enforcement leaders pledged Thursday morning to capture the Bowdoin man suspected of killing 18 people and wounding 13 in a pair of shootings in Lewiston on Wednesday night, but they again refused to provide specific information about the massive manhunt for the killer.

“We’re in the early stages of this investigation,” Maine State Police Colonel William Ross said at a press conference at Lewiston Town Hall. “We can’t share all of our information right now, and I’m sure you understand that. We don’t want to get ahead of ourselves.”

Six men and one woman were killed at Just-In-Time Recreation, the site of the first shooting, Ross said Thursday. Seven men were killed inside Schemengees Bar & Grille, and another was fatally shot outside the restaurant. Three more victims died after being transferred to local hospitals.

. . .

Warnings to shelter-in-place soon expanded from Lewiston to all of Androscoggin County as police hunted for the suspect, who police believe abandoned his car near the Lisbon boat dock on Frost Hill Avenue near Route 196. Police were knocking on doors of nearby homes while helicopters remained in the area Wednesday night and Thursday morning.

Do the Canadians perform a better job patrolling their border than we do? No doubt as soon as the massacre occurred, the RCMP would have been on high alert. If he did leave Maine, he probably went to another state.

A day after the shootings, the cops finally get to his house, which was 20 minutes away?

https://www.rnz.co.nz/national/programmes/checkpoint/audio/2018912929/maine-gunman-still-at-large-as-police-surround-suspect-s-house

They are telling us what a great job they are doing but: (1) They didn’t prevent it from happening, (2) They didn’t save a single person while it was happening, and (3) He got away, and (4) they haven’t caught him.

He did leave a suicide note. He is most likely dead, but they are keeping the populace terrified and locked down, because there is no downside for them.

I was just reading that people are “running out of food” after a day and a half.

I understand keeping a vigilant eye out…but, dude, get in your car and drive to the Shaw’s in Farmington. It’s ten minutes away.

People are stupid.

I don’t think you need a permit in Maine, either.

The bowling alley is big and they were having a kids bowling night. I am pretty sure there aren’t many 15 year olds packing heat.

And encouraging people to carry in a bar isn’t always a good plan either.

Keeping this going distracts from the major problems in the world, and Biden’s increasing issues. Plus, they make a gun control argument to Maine, which is a strong 2A state.

I mentioned my theory that he is dead to someone, and they asked: “Then, why would they keep people sacred and locked down in their houses?”

They did for Covid. This is old hat to them.

I wasn’t born untrusting and cynical. I learned it.

Maine restricts gun in places the (1) serve liquor, and (2) are posted.

Maine law criminalizes possession of any firearm in an establishment licensed to sell liquor for on-premises consumption if either: 1) the establishment has signs posted that prohibit or restrict the possession of firearms which patrons are likely to see; or 2) a patron possesses a firearm on the premises while under the influence of intoxicating liquor, drugs, a combination of liquor and drugs, or has an excessive alcohol level.

The bar serves liquor, and the bowling alley probabably did. The question is: Were they posted?

I am not sure where you expected the cops to intervene. The guy was done shooting in both places by the time the cops arrived.

I don’t think people have a good idea of how small-town this area is. While Lewiston-Auburn are large in Maine, in most any other state they would be almost insignificant in size. In Western MA, for example, Lewiston would not be in the top ten cities in population.

There are not many cops, and the area is pretty large. And the Maine State Police is tiny compared to the geographic size of the state.

Given all that, I cannot image a police response that could have been better given this location and experience/accuracy of this particular shooter.

There are lots of armchair cops on FR.

And how long do you think it would have taken the NY Staties to contact the Maine Staties to get the right judge to enact the yellow flag rule and then have the cops go to his home and access his firearms?

You certainly put a lot of faith in “paperwork.” LOL

The way I read it, concealed carry, where alcohol is served, i.e. liquor license for on site consumption is permitted unless it is posted. It could just be a standard thing where most of these places end up posting, even if not required.

I saw that the Just In Time Bowling Alley was posted as "No Guns."

18 to 13... This guy means business. Too bad he’s going after innocence instead of deserving targets.

Definitely appears to be an older picture as it still has the facemask thing, but it’s slightly that policy hadn’t changed

Like the new Speaker of the House of Representatives said, and the Holy Bible says, The HEART is the reason for American’s problems, not guns. The Bible says the heart is wicked and only God can fix what is wrong with man. Man cannot fix it.
