“I think Stefanik is supposed to do the official nomination.”
She gave a good nomination speech. The Democrat from CA is now lying his a$$ off about Hakeem Jeffries who he nominated for speaker.

I noticed when she mentioned the motto In God We Trust, all the republicans stood and applauded. The Dems all sat on their hands

A total of 429 members are present. One Republican is absent and three Democrats are. That means Johnson needs 215 votes to win.

Five of the usual suspects from the RINO tribe have voted for him.

He seems okay to me.
Pro-life.
Described as deeply religious.
Was not a member of the gang of 8 that voted out McCarthy, so that is good with some of the moderate rinos.
Did not campaign for speaker’s office. Seems to be by acclimation.
People who know him say most people like him. Not perfect but not a rino.

I am not taking any position on Mike Johnson.
My position is they need to elect a speaker, period, be it Johnson or whomever, any GOP member for all I care, just get it over and move on.
The purists on either side will still have plenty of chances to be obstinate when votes on legislation come before them, but meanwhile just elect a speaker, period.

UPDATE 1:11 p.m. ET:
Into the C’s in the alphabet now and Johnson still has unanimous support and no defections among Republicans. He might just do this on the first ballot.
