Former President Donald Trump is distancing himself from attorney Sidney Powell in the wake of her guilty plea in the Georgia election interference case.
“Sidney Powell was one of millions and millions of people who thought, and in ever increasing numbers still think, correctly, that the 2020 Presidential Election was RIGGED & STOLLEN," Trump wrote in a post on his social media platform Truth Social on Sunday.
"Despite the Fake News reports to the contrary, and without even reaching out to ask the Trump Campaign, MS. POWELL WAS NOT MY ATTORNEY, AND NEVER WAS," he wrote.
***
Eric Segall, a law professor at Georgia State University, told NBC News that Trump’s assertion about Powell “is another example of Trump re-writing history and changing facts for his own purposes.”
Segall also said on the social media platform X that the assertion wasn't helpful to Trump's cause. "So much for any claims of attorney/client privilege. Not smart," he wrote.
That's a reference to a privilege that protects private communications between attorneys and their clients. *** Trump once touted Powell's involvement in the election-related case while he was challenging the election results in the days after his loss.
"I look forward to Mayor Giuliani spearheading the legal effort to defend OUR RIGHT to FREE and FAIR ELECTIONS! Rudy Giuliani, Joseph diGenova, Victoria Toensing, Sidney Powell , and Jenna Ellis, a truly great team, added to our other wonderful lawyers and representatives!" he tweeted on Nov. 14, 2020.
Five days later, Giuliani held a press conference with those attorneys, including Powell, at RNC headquarters in Washington. "We're representing President Trump and the Trump campaign," Giuliani said then.

Yup. That's what I remember. And the two links taken together prove it.
She was officially OFF the team just eight days after being officially on the team.
As soon as she started to make bizarre claims that could not be verified, they fired her.

I say bat####, in that she might be bat#### crazy.
Very likely not.
But after the GA statement, it’s an option that should be kept open.
She accuses the gov and SOS basically of bribery.
I can believe that.
Then she says “that’s certainly what I’ve been told”
Told!?!?
You don’t make a statement like that based on what you’ve been “told”.
Let’s see what happens.

Totally agree. I’ve heard her say this type of thing regarding the allegations she’s made on more than one occasion.
She may have a great reputation, but everything I’ve seen to date since she got engaged after Nov 3 has looked pretty iffy. You don’t win on “told”, “I’ve heard”, “I think” or similar. You win on “I have irrefutable, hardcore EVIDENCE”.
For God’s sake..this thing is turning into a circus, I’m afraid.

That’s the act she tried to pull on the Mark Levin show (and then Levin had to cut her off.) “This and this happened” turns into I haven’t verified to that’s just “what I was told” and haven’t had time to look into it really.

Great.
I cannot take anything she says at face value anymore.
I have been told too many times that this person or that person is the bomb and can be trusted and this and that.
Only to find later...no.
Like sessions, and gowdy before him..etc.
She seems like a grandstander

If that is what happened, then Powell may be one of our fake-conservative grifters, a species I am unsure most FReepers have totally acknowledged as existing. I’ve seen a great many of these, most of them went dormant after 2016 or joined the Trump train eventually (originally they were all anti-Trump). And I don’t mean the Bill Kristol types. I mean the weirdo grifters on our side who peddle in disinformation and “owning the libs” while accomplishing nothing. Ted Cruz was a text book example, then he reformed (at least in my sight) as the years went on. Though Cruz will likely revert to being a useless grifter once Trump is gone.
At this point, I’m hanging my hat on one thing: putting everything on the line to advocate for secession here in my native Texas.
Hopefully Trump pulls this out and defeats the fraud, or, even better, calls us to the street for an armed revolution. But I don’t see that happening.

She was on the podium with Giuliani and Ellis.
It was noted by many on this forum while it was happening that Sidney Powell wasn’t employed by Trump in any capacity and she was acting as a ‘free agent’, and that the many claims made by her were her opinion only, and not endorsed by Donald Trump.
“A false claim; she was.”
A false claim by TBP; she was not.
"Trump claims Sidney Powell was 'never' his lawyer after her plea deal"
Evidenced by the following thread (November 2020), Rudy Giuliani had explained that Powell was not part of Trump's campaign team, nor Trump's personal attorney.
"In a brief statement released Sunday afternoon, President Trump's lead attorney Rudy Giuliani and senior legal adviser Jenna Ellis said that Powell "is not a member of the Trump Legal Team."
"She is also not a lawyer for the President in his personal capacity," the former New York City mayor added." —Rudy Giuliani distances Trump campaign from attorney Sidney Powell (11.22.20)
I read her book “Licensed to Lie: Exposing Corruption in the Department of Justice” and thought it was quite good, but when she got involved with the 2020 election, I became a bit suspicious of her, especially after nothing apparently came about after her “Release the Kraken” comment.
From Wikipedia:
“In the 2000s Powell represented firms and executives involved in the Enron scandal, including the accounting firm Arthur Andersen and former Merrill Lynch executive Jim Brown. She was an outspoken critic of the Enron Task Force prosecutions, and accused prosecutor Andrew Weissmann of overreach.”
“In 2003 she represented James Brown, a Merrill Lynch executive involved in the Enron scandal; a decade later she wrote Licensed to Lie: Exposing Corruption in the Department of Justice to denounce the judicial corruption she perceived in Brown’s trial.”
Powell was originally part of Trump’s legal team. Trump announced it himself.
‘I look forward to Mayor Giuliani spearheading the legal effort to defend OUR RIGHT to FREE and FAIR ELECTIONS!’ Trump tweeted.
‘Rudy Giuliani, Joseph diGenova, Victoria Toensing, Sidney Powell, and Jenna Ellis, a truly great team, added to our other wonderful lawyers and representatives!’
Why are you being the devil’s advocate for the media?
Bull Shite artists need no proof.
She was MIke Flynn’s lawyer, after he fired his ORIGINAL lawyers for practically railroading him to prison
Her attorney posted on Twitter that Sidney Powell did NOT have a plea deal to testify against DJT.
She only agreed to tell the truth.

Care to provide proof? You could not be more wrong. She absolutely was not at the time of the actions she was being charged for.
Also, there is at best just fake news she was ever more than a fangirl for her own lust for notoriety even before that.
Since you have stated as fact she was, you need to put up or shut up.
Already in 2020 they distanced themselves.

The Trump campaign’s legal team moved to distance itself Sunday from the firebrand conservative attorney after a tumultuous several days in which Powell made multiple incorrect statements about the voting process, unspooled unsupported and complex conspiracy theories and vowed to “blow up” Georgia with a “biblical” court filing.
“Sidney Powell is practicing law on her own. She is not a member of the Trump Legal Team. She is also not a lawyer for the President in his personal capacity,” Giuliani and another lawyer for Trump, Jenna Ellis, said in a statement.

You and TPD appear to us only selective facts. She was not at the time she did all her BS, Also it was a situation where they considered her and then quickly dismissed her. No sane person would then believe she was representing Trump.
No different than hiring a lunatic and a few days later when you realize the person is BS crazy you fire them. They do not represent the business and have no impact on its character or activities.
Even less so with Powell as it appears she did not even make it to the team for a day, she was under consideration for a few days at best.
Even Rush Limbaugh had Powell on his show. He rarely had guests, but raved about her brilliance on air.
That’s when I knew that cancer was taking its toll on him.
Ridiculous. I used Donald Trump’s VERY OWN announcement of who his legal team was, and he specifically named Sidney Powell. If that’s not good enough for you, nothing is.
