Editorial: Gun bill a great idea as long as criminals obey the law (Massachusetts)

When it comes to preventing crime and keeping communities safe, the new gun bill passed by the Massachusetts House of Representatives is shooting blanks.

As the Herald reported, the bill expands a list of banned firearms, adding most popular AR-15 styles to a list of “assault style weapons.” It would also require licensed concealed carry holders to secure permission before entering another’s home with a firearm and require additional training for license holders, among other points.

For law-abiding gun owners, it adds layers of compliance on top of the state’s already-strict firearms regulations.

For criminals, it means nothing.

After a pair of fatal shootings in Boston last week, Suffolk District Attorney Kevin Hayden pointed out that the arrests of two repeat offenders on firearm charges are a “prime example” of how a core group of people drive the “illegal gun possession menace” in Boston.

Those repeat offenders were arrested after traffic stops just days before two more men lost their lives to gun violence in Dorchester and Mattapan on Friday afternoon and early Saturday morning.

“These cases also highlight the need for us as a society to recognize the concentration of guns among a core group of individuals — in this case, two repeat offenders — and to find ways to break the cycle, which so often leads to violence and tragedy,” Hayden said.

He noted the gun-related arrests were “cases where prior convictions and prior incarcerations have apparently done little to dissuade these individuals from repeating the offenses.”

H. 4135, as written:

1. Institutes a new, broad, complete “Assault Weapons Ban,” including firearms already owned by law-abiding citizens.

2. Effectively bans carrying a loaded or unloaded firearm anywhere in the Commonwealth unless expressly allowed by a private landowner.

3. Bans anyone under 21 from acquiring or carrying any semi-automatic rifle or shotgun. It even bans anyone under 15 from participating in firearm training.

These are just a few of the long list of new laws H. 4135 looks to implement. For a full breakdown of this bill, I urge you to visit GOAL’s website:

These far-reaching mandates make it impossible for law-abiding citizens like me to protect myself or my family. Sadly, these laws will only disarm law-abiding citizens, while giving dangerous criminals the upper hand.

It’s FINALLY occurring to leftists that criminals don’t obey the law?

Whoever would have thought we’d live to see the day?

Just like the criminals obey the other laws. Like they “do not” try to kill you after they rob you.

In the wake of the horrific videos released by the IDF it is criminally insane to enact more oppressive gun laws.

Gun bill a great idea as long as criminals obey the law

No, unconstitutional infringements of our rights are not a great idea even if criminals somehow were to obey the law.

How far Massachusetts has strayed from the legacy of April 19, 1775!!! Isaac Davis and my kinfolk from that fateful day must be spinning in their graves.

Don’t you think every man Jack (and woman) in Ukraine wishes they had an AR15 to pull down from the mantlepiece, as did those kin with their flintlocks? in Israel? In the United States when our open border policy delivers its terrorist fruit?

George Santayana said it best: “Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.”

Will LIEberals EVER learn that the so-called “criminal community” does not obey the law?

Not obeying the law is what differentiates the “criminal community” FRom the law abiding community!

***“Assault Weapons Ban,” including firearms already owned by law-abiding citizens.***

I wonder if that will include these beauties made 116 years ago.

Leftists ARE criminals. This totally explains their behavior. Democrats desire a world where Democrats can just take whatever they want. Do whatever they want. They hate anyone who might stand in the way of their sick criminal desires The RAT Party is simply criminal gang.

Certainly, the Newtown tragedy was a complete aberration.

In this case, Adam Lanza who stole his mother’s guns (which was against the law), and then killed her with them (which was against the law). Next, he transported these loaded guns onto school property and inside the building (which was against the law). He discharged the weapons within the city limits (which was against the law), and murdered 26 people (which was against the law). Finally, Mr. Lanza committed suicide (which was against the law).

But nothing like this could ever happen again, so clearly we need laws like the ones above that were disregarded.
