I don't know if this will pass the constitutional test. Why require a Speaker if the members can pass a resolution creating a half-Speaker?

If they "empower" McHenry, then that takes the pressure off of them to choose a Speaker. We don't need a Continuing Resolution Speaker, we need a Speaker of the House.

It's time for the Republicans to do their constitutional duty and choose one, and not waste energy trying to bypass the Constitution.

If you want a "temporary Speaker," vote for McHenry as the new Speaker and keep the rule for the motion to vacate. At least we will have a constitutionally-defined Speaker of the House.
