It will now be easier for Israelis to carry firearms for self-defense in the wake of the worst terror attack in the nation’s history.
Israeli Minister of National Security Itamar Ben-Gvir announced on Sunday he has ordered officials responsible for issuing gun licenses to broaden its standards. As the death toll inflicted by terror group Hamas grew to over 600, Ben-Gvir said he wants more Israelis to be able to legally arm themselves.
“Today I directed the Firearms Licensing Division to go on an emergency operation in order to allow as many citizens as possible to arm themselves,” he posted, according to a Google translation. “The plan will take effect within 24 hours.”
The policy change comes after Hamas launched a surprise attack on Israelis that saw terrorists carry out the brutal murder and mutilation of men, women, and children. Many more were injured or kidnapped. Israel has declared war on Hamas and begun carrying out airstrikes in Gaza, but it remains unclear if all of the terror group’s fighters have even been expelled from the towns they ransacked at this point.
The move to arm Israeli civilians in the wake of a vicious invasion mirrors that of the Ukranian government last year. As the Russian Army approached Kyiv last February, the government distributed 10,000 rifles to civilians hoping to stem the tide. The Ukrainian Army, bolstered by civilian resistance, eventually pushed Russians away from their capital city.

>Me, I had one slip out of my holster and drop down in the crack of doom between my front seat and the console in my car. I was scared to death the damn thing was going to fire when I fished it out.
Everyone should carry what they prefer. I prefer a DA/SA. That said, 1) Glocks have 3 safeties and I really doubt you were going to put backward pressure on a trigger, including the trigger safety, pulling it out :) and 2) WTF holster? I prefer ones with some retention like the Bianchi 126GLS one for a variety of models including Glock (not pushing Bianchi, but it’s an example; nothing’s slipping out.
Thumb breaks, grip locks like that, grippy parts that hold the trigger guard; take your pick. (Disclaimer: I hold a minute amount of RGR stock)
Too Little, Too Late!
I wonder if Israel and Jews will survive the Liberal Jewish Love of Disarming their fellow Jews and those that support their Right To Life?
So when the massacre was happening, plenty of civilians were murdered. And the police? Well, they were getting murdered too. And the military? They were getting murdered too. Sure would have been nice if the civilians had weapons and could have helped save the police and the military.
They obviously thought they were part of the celebration. Some were waving at them.
“Israeli Loosens Gun Laws After Unprecedented Terror Attack”
That sounds like the Biden administration. Wait till 8+ million illegl aliens break Federal Law by ILLEGALLY crossing the border then decide to build 1/20th of the wall that Trump built. And maybe have to buy back the wall materials that were bought and paid for by Trump they sold for scrap
I think only the citizenry got caught. I think the gov't in both countries were complicit.
The Israelis can only practice at their designated ranges. That is where their weapons are stored. They can practice all they want. Shoot 50 rounds, take the casings up front. Buy 50 more, repeat.
Pretty bad way of doing things. Hopefully Israel wakes up and lets people have the means of self protection.
Free airline tickets for yesterday’s flight?
These liberals have no problem for not people guns to defend themselves. But they want Americans to risk their lives for their f only. Americans to risk their lives for their folly. It’s really sad when they can arbitrary select 600 while they are at war. Beyond encouraging. Half the army to mutiny right before this war started. I guess liberals are the same around the world.
Keep in mind that carrying weapons at concerts is not allowed in most of the USA any more than it is in Israel. That is a good reason to avoid all such venues where citizens are not allowed to be armed, such as sports stadiums, school graduations, concerts…..
Good move. Citizens at the festival would have been better off armed...
Actually we have the same problem here.
Imagine a world without leftists and Muzzards.
It’s amazing that a nation that has always considered itself perpetually at war, made their citizenry into easy targets.
They should form local militias to deal with the ragheads and clean them out permanently
Highly restrictive control of private firearms has been part of Israeli society from 1948 on. Israel started out as a very restrictive socialist state. Israel has slowly moved toward free market capitalism.
Not what I read. There gun laws are quite strict.
They have only 1.4 private guns per 100 people. They are only allowed to have 50 rounds (now 100) per person. An Infantryman's basic load is 240 rounds.
I just found out their deer don’t wear Kevlar either.
Not really paratroopers, more an insertion method for commandos or special teams.
Yep
You do have a point but I don't think the lack of firearm ownership is due to their regulations since almost anyone can get a permit if they wish.
They have a different culture then we do. For example, hunting is almost nonexistent, only 15 species of birds can be hunted but no mammals and shotguns only. Hunting licenses are frozen, i.e. no new hunting licenses are issued, only renewals, since the year 2000 (currently about 2,500 licenses)
Israel's homicide rate is less than a third of America's (1.5 per 100,000 vs. 5+ per 100,000).
They don't have a sub culture committing most of their crime like we do. And in that respect, I view them as being more civilized than us.
However, following the current events taking place today, I suspect that there will be a flood of citizens taking advantage of the relaxing of their law and arming up.
I own many firearms, mostly for hunting, which I don't do anymore and numerous handguns which I inherited from my dad and several others I purchased. My enthusiasm for firearms began when I was real young and thus grew up with them. I have many friends who don't own firearms and choose not to for whatever reasons, and many others who do for the sole reason of self protection.
I suspect the reason for the low gun ownership in Israel is because they never had a reason to own one.
But now they do......
