“Israel lost the entire Sinai peninsula during the Yom Kippur War and had 10,000 casualties. This isn’t anywhere close.”

Not exactly, the Egyptians grabbed a few square miles but were eventually cut off and surrounded. They never got close to reclaiming the entire Sinai.

The U.S. orchestrated the Yom Kippur War to get Sinai back into Egypt’s hands at the negotiating table.

It wasn’t that we cared so much about Egypt. We just had a top priority in regional diplomacy over there — to ensure that the Suez Canal wasn’t the border between the two countries, so it could be open as a key trade route.
