Does 5/6 mean somewhere between 5 and 6 It is the same as 5 divided by 6, or 5 out of 6. Your solution of .83333 is correct. 5 is 83.3% of 6.

On the calculator that is built into every hand held computer (smart Phone) there are no fractions. Calculators use decimals.

X could be a pound of sugar or a ton of gravel; what the instructor wants to know is whether the student can add fractions with different denominators.
