It is the same as 5 divided by 6, or 5 out of 6. Your solution of .83333 is correct. 5 is 83.3% of 6.

You are correct.

On the calculator that is built into every hand held computer (smart Phone) there are no fractions. Calculators use decimals.

Fractions are obsolete

No, it means what portion of X do you get if you add half of X to 1/3 of X.

X could be a pound of sugar or a ton of gravel; what the instructor wants to know is whether the student can add fractions with different denominators.
