Kevin McCarthy's run as Speaker is finished. Is Matt Gaetz a villain or a hero?

Is Matt Gaetz a hero or a villain?

The camera-loving Republican from Florida who threatened to shut down the government and who masterminded the ousting of Speaker Kevin McCarthy on Tuesday has made more than a few enemies in Congress.

He doesn’t care; he represents a district in Florida that hasn’t gone Democrat in decades and that went for former President Trump in 2020 by 68% to 29%. That means that in 2018, for instance, election gurus gave him 99% odds of being reelected, even though his approval rating was a dismal 20% -- worse than Joe Biden.

“Did the Founding Fathers have everything thought out when they signed The Declaration of Independence?”

Apparently the Declaration of Independence started out as scribbling on a bar napkin at Fraunces Tavern. I see where you are going with this, but if Gaetz didn’t have a plan in place once this was done, shame on him.

“I guess “loose cannons” are people who refuse to enable GOP assistance to the democrat party.”

Some of these people claim to want change but complain if they get it. McCarthy went back on everything he claimed he would do as speaker, and so he needed tossed off the chair.

He’s a hero. He’s the first one who actually held the RINOs to their word and who held them accountable for their endless backstabbing.

We need a LOT more Matt Gaetz’s.

“illain, costing the House 2024, maybe Senate “

If anything, he may have gotten the House and Senate as people see the GOP might actually stand for something.

We are tired of the milquetoasts.

McCarthy and McConnell. Hmmm. They have more in common than the first three letters of their last names. They were practically allies of the Democrats. McCarthy made promises to become speaker didn’t keep them so he could stay speaker. It’s a lesson.

“Consequently, Gaetz has little sympathy for centrist colleagues in toss-up districts who must win over independent voters who are likely appalled by the chaos in the GOP caucus. He apparently has little commitment to his party or to maintaining the Republican majority in the House.”

"Centrists" in toss up districts are going to be appalled that a feckless backstabbing RINO was actually held accountable by other Republicans? They will be appalled that some Republicans care more about the country and about principle than party? I don't think so. In fact, I think most will have exactly the opposite view.

Newsflash!

The RINO Establishment is NOT POPULAR.

The GOP is, and has been, in the throes of a much deserved revolution. Gaetz, IMO, is above all an incendiary à la Trump etc.. They, warts and all, are essential to igniting a conservative, cleansing movement in this nation.

That’s frankly silly. You call out corruption and malfeasance when it is clear it will not stop until you do, not when you have a “plan”. One Congressman can call out corruption but is in no position to take over and craft a solution. That is the responsibility of the whole Republican caucus and may God help them to make choices that will protect & serve America.

IMHO he is both.

As has been said, promises have been broken for decades, without consequence. Yesterday there was a consequence. Now we can see what is able to be brought forth.

He has pulled the wheels off the cart! The budget, impeachment inquiry and every other thing before Congress is at a standstill. The coalition among Republicans is in tatters. The view of the Republican party among the electorate is that of disfunction. This could be costly in contested 2024 races.

No one has been so effective in holding the GOPe’s feet to the fire in my memory.

No one has so reduced the GOP’s efficacy in the House of Representatives.

Hero. one of a handful of people who understands why they are there, and who put him there. I doubt he did it for popularity. Now lets get Jim Jordan seated as speaker and move on.

If you think that is what this is about, you need to consume less MSM, to include Fox News.

I think $33 Trillion in debt is chaos.

I think not passing single-subject spending bills is chaos.

I think being governed by continuing resolutions and omnibus bills is chaos.

And something that Presidents Bush 43, Obama and Trump all signed. All of them.
