Assessed value usually does not match the actual value of a property - assessed value is what the government thinks the property is worth, actual value is whatever the market thinks it's worth. Every home owner knows this - we pay property taxes on the assessed value, not the market value. We secure loans and sell our houses based on the market value.
Trump secured loans based on the market value of his properties - that's exactly what any homeowner who takes out a HELOC does. Is Letitia James going to go after every homeowner who took out a HELOC in New York? Further, Trump paid back every one of those loans - who is the injured party here?
This entire court case is appalling - even those who hate Trump on the Left need to take a moment to think for the first time in years and understand that this gross miscarriage of justice be inflicted on them, too.

It’s a good thing I’m not paying taxes on my property’s market value. I could not afford the taxes on that.

How does an inflated valuation reduce insurance? If anything, I thought it would increase the premium.

Very much a parallel to what went on during the final decline of the Roman Empire. Political opponents being denounced as criminals on the flimsiest of legal grounds, having their property seized by the state. And people
should take notice. If they get away with this on Trump, we can all be targets.
