Article makes the point that W was the last POTUS who signed a spending bill that went all the way through the Congressional appropriations process. Big deal, he was a big spender too ... just not as big as the demonkkraps.
Your point that the GOP today is exactly what the voters are looking for is true. How many social security beneficiaries here on FR are willing to take a haircut as a contribution to reign in the feral givernment? We won’t because like all the other people feeding at the feral trough, we believe are entitled because we were lied to your face - “it’s your money.” We also know that if we gave back some SS dollars for the purpose of helping save the ferals, the feral givernment won’t shrink one dam# bit but they will promise to do it 10 years down the road. So yes, the “voters” want the GOP that we have - because the GOP today like the demonkkraps will lie too ... will keep the game going...til it crashes.
Your comment about Trump is interesting, but you imply there is no spender worse than him. He was not a fiscal conservative, but I would say FDR, W, bathhouse barry, and FJB are bigger, stronger figures in the area of fiscal irresponsibility. I would also say that if Trump were miraculously (s)elected in 2024, he would be more amenable (listen) to addressing the issue. But he won’t have too listen. Gerrymandering ensures the next Congress will continue to do what they have always done - lie and keep on making your money worthless. But we like to be lied to, don’t we?
Not really true. By today's standards Bush had balanced the budget by 2007 with total deficit of $157B.
I don’t think Trump was any worse than the rest. I just pointed out that he has personified fiscal irresponsibility — in both public office and in his business ventures — for his entire adult life.
