Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-Fla., said Sunday that he intends to file a motion to oust House Speaker Kevin McCarthy this week after Congress voted to avert a shutdown hours before the deadline.
"I do intend to file a motion to vacate against Speaker McCarthy this week," Gaetz said in an interview on CNN’s “State of the Union.” “I think we need to rip off the band aid. I think we need to move on with new leadership that can be trustworthy."
Gaetz also confirmed that he'll soon file a motion to vacate the speakership in an appearance on ABC News' "This Week," after the Senate and House on Saturday night voted to pass a short-term bill to keep the government funded through Nov. 17.
In response to Gaetz' announcement, McCarthy said, “That’s nothing new ... He’s tried to do that from the moment I ran for office ... Yes, I’ll survive. You know, this is personal with Matt.”

Based on that, it’s easy to see why the country is going down the drain. Half the people on this thread think MacCarthy is doing a good job, and many more are sucking their thumb, crying about that bad man Gaetz and fretting that Republicans look foolish.

You are correct, I meant the office of speaker.
Kevin has been there a long time and he knows how to get stuff done, but what is currently needed is major surgery, not the simple day surgery crap and even that sends DC into complete hysterics.
It would be incredibly difficult for us to get out of the hole we are in even assuming they balanced the budget and that seems impossible. Planning to spend 50% more than we take in and then cutting 8% is a deliberate plan to spend 42% more than you take in.
I guess some view that as a victory but notice when we finally got the 8% cut? The same year we crossed 2T in deficits.
Victory or big spending games? The numbers don’t lie and EVEN with the 8% cut someone above celebrated we still have a record deficit!

Our spending is so out of control now that we have record deficits as far as the eye can see. I don’t have the numbers in front of me nor the energy to look them up but we are destroying the economic prospects of our children and its immoral and unethical. I would argue that it should be illegal and its definitely unconstitutional to do this to future generations.
I don’t put it past the DC cabal to inflate the request and then concede to a 10% cut. They are 100% out of control.
How many votes did it take for McCarthy to win the Speakership? A lot. Goetz doesn’t stand a chance. 96 Reps voted for the extension. That’s 40% of the House Republicans. If Gaetz and his supporters keep pushing this they could wind up with Hakeem Jeffries as Speaker.
Why is McCarthy bringing to the floor and passing bills with minority Republican votes combined with Democrat majority votes? The guy is a Republican fraud, a Democrat in Republican clothing.
