Rishi Sunak was delivered a pre-conference (convention) boost this morning after Labour's polling lead was slashed to just 10 points.
The Prime Minister closed the gap on the opposition party by five points after making a series of policy announcements aimed at shoring up the Conservative base.
After revealing plans to cut back on some of the Government's net zero targets, hinting at the scrapping of the Birmingham to Manchester leg of HS2 rail project, and declaring an end to the "war on motorists".
The poll for a Sunday newspaper put Labour on 39 per cent of the vote and the Conservatives on 29 per cent.
It represents a two point drop for Labour and a three point increase for the Tories.
The polling boost comes ahead of the Conservative Party gathering in Manchester this week for its annual conference (convention).

The letter after the name means jack anymore.
The only reason political parties still exist is to give voters the illusion of choice.
A pol is either loyal to his constitutional monarchy or to his Deep State.
The UK’s pols are Deep State.
The UK has the same problem we do.
The same voting machines.
What it doesn’t have, and desperately needs, is its own Trump.
So, Labour is ahead by 10 points.
They need Nigel Farage to get back into politics.
FWIW, I wonder if Britons are having those second thoughts about what it would be really like to have socialism full speed ahead as opposed to the incompetent and slow motion version from the Tories.
