Republican Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis’ campaign confirmed to The Daily Signal on Wednesday evening that he will support 15-week protections for the unborn.

In audio of the debate following DeSantis’ response to an abortion question, candidate Sen. Tim Scott can be heard asking DeSantis if he would support legislation banning abortions of babies after 15 weeks.

“Yes, I will,” DeSantis responds.

Should be interesting to see how his cut outs who attacked Trump treat DeSantis. Like looking left and right in the first debate before raising his hand, this is another example of him following others’ lead.

This issue is best left to the states at this juncture.

Trump’s issue with the six week ban was the politics of being saddled with that nationally when even many “prolife” states are clearly not behind it based on election results. He also refused to tip his hand as a negotiator on the issue or gift MTP with the soundbites she wanted. This is an issue that requires discussion and continuing to change hearts and minds.

Trump settled on the traditionally accepted exceptions of rape, incest and life of the mother.

I am to the right of him on the issue but I understand where he’s coming from. DeSantis is now just being a hypocrite and echo.

Trump has issues he runs on but he’s not an ideologue.

Trump and his people cannot stop talking about protecting abortion.

“How far along in pregnancy does a woman know or suspect that she might be pregnant?”

When I was a teen, my Mom told me that if I ever had ‘grown up sex,’ even with protection, to consider myself pregnant immediately thereafter until it was proven otherwise. Oh, and you’re NOT having an abortion and you WILL be raising a baby while your other friends are out having fun. Is that clear? ;)

In reality (Where I live - Miss You, Rush!) if you’re on a regular cycle, it’s one missed ‘period’ so about 28-30 days.

Look Ma! No kids, LOL!

And I agree - it’s back to the STATES where it always belonged and we all need to work in our individual STATES to keep reducing abortions.

What’s crazy is that has been our argument for the past 60 years.

We have consistently said that Roe should be overturned and it should be left up to the states.

Now we are changing our argument and saying that it is a federal issue? WTF?

I personally feel like any woman who would kill her own child is possessed by demons and is committing the most evil, vile act imaginable. But saying that the federal government (this evil federal government) has the right to say if it’s o.k. or not is only going to ensure that it happens MORE.

The best scenario would be for some states to outlaw it and some states to legalize it and the demons who feel compelled to sacrifice babies will all move to the demon run states.

Thanks for clarifying this applied to abortion policy at the federal level. No one else (including me) caught that.

Oops. Sorry about my error. The proposed bill does extend to states. I mistook your statement about DeSantis’ intentions.

The Supreme Court did not find it was unconstitutional for the federal government to regulate medical procedures and practices. So even with abortion being returned to the states Congress can still within their purview to set limits based on such things as who is permitted to perform abortions, where they are performed, and gestational age. Provided their is sound medical reasoning behind these limits. For example they could ban the use of the so called abortion pills after a certain time past last menstrual period.

Now from the proposed bill(it may not be the only one),

“It is the purpose of Congress to assert legitimate governmental interest in protecting the lives of unborn children from the stage at which stantial medical evidence indicates that they are capable of feeling pain.”

Though I would prefer Constitutional protection extended to preborn of a certain age this bill goes another route. One which certainly reflects a legit function of Congress.

I can’t help but draw some troubling conclusions to that.

Neither one is pro-life. If they were, they’d want to ban it at conception.

Another example of a "purist, one-issue voter" ignoring the facts of how our government works.

If either wants to get anything more than what President Trump has already gotten done with getting rid of Roe vs. Wade they have to get elected first.

Your position would garantee both of never getting elected, and hence, not being able to get anything more done on this issue.

Go pound your self-righteous chest elsewhere!

And you seem to miss that losing 2024 guarantees the progress we’ve made in the fight against abortion will compete completely rolled back, and setting concrete for decades.

Exactly. Get the 15-week ban, then narrow that further when possible. Still with DeSantis (yes, I will vote for Trump if he gets the nomination, but then, I would even vote for Fat Crusty over Biden if it came to that).

Wrong, wrong, wrong.

It should be 0 days. Zero.

We’re talking human life and a violation of God’s murder law. We’re talking a violation of the constitution and the declaration, both of which enshrine the right to life.

Are you saying Medicaid and Medicare are unconstitutional?

Yup.

You show me chapter and verse in the Constitution delegating healthcare to the feds.

As the 9th and 10th Amendments explain, powers not delegated to the feds by the Constitution are reserved to the states and the people of those states. Healthcare is a state's issue.

You should probably actually READ the Constitution and the 9th and Tenth Amendments. If you do, you'll probably be in the minoirty.
