Embattled Sen. Bob Menendez of New Jersey is expected to defiantly announce Monday that he will seek re-election — less than a week after being indicted on explosive corruption charges.

The 69-year-old Democrat issued a statement Friday, the day of his Manhattan federal indictment, insisting, “I’m not going anywhere” — despite widespread calls including from top officials in his own party to resign.

Monday’s expected press conference would be his first in-person appearance since he and his wife were charged with taking hundreds of thousands of dollars in bribes in the form of gold bars, a Mercedes-Benz convertible, cash and even exercise machines and an air purifier

If it gets that far he will win re-election in a landslide. We are talking NJ here

He's also a lifetime member of the U.S. Senator Club and will have all charges dropped or will be acquitted again.

He wasn’t acquitted. It was a mistrial and Justice Dept didn’t press the issue.

The mistrial was declared because the jury voted 10-2 to acquit him and the government probably realized at 10-2 for acquittal meant they really didn’t have a strong case.

I know the answer, but why Bob Menendez and why now, has he pissed off someone in the DOJ, did he really commit the crimes, who knows because the entire thing is political.

Remember Raymond Donovan, the Labor Secretary under Ronald Reagan, he was forced to resign after getting charged with crimes, he went to trial and was found not guilty.

He remarked after the verdict, “where does someone go to get their reputation back”,

The political establishment took him out and ruined his career and probably cost him millions to defend himself.

I have a real problem with the idea of forcing someone to resign over allegations.

Under this scenario, the political establishment can take out anyone they want, they can pretty much do it now, at some point we have to say no only the people can do that.

Wonder if Van Drew (US House Rep.NJ) is thinking about going after the seat. Has strong support in South Jersey

At one time or another, they all went. if they did not get their rocks off from abusing little girls, they had little boys[ A/L/A, Sandusky] for them to get their rocks off by abusing. A bunch of despicable bastards as far as I am concerned. But the American people love them. In fact, they love them so much they put one in the White House. And to add insult to injury, they kicked an honest man out to put him in. And chances are good that will put him back in in 2024.

Oh let him finish his term. In the eyes of the public he is a crook. This isn’t coming from the Republicans. He was publicly against more than one of the administration’s policies. Just hope we can find someone who can win to run against him.

What the public thinks is only important when it comes to his reelection and the citizens of any jury he goes before.

Remember Matt Gaetz was accused of and was supposedly under FBI investigation for sex with underage girls and trafficking minors, he said the charges were lies, did not resign and ultimately the investigation was dropped.

Those allegations were pretty severe, he was potentially looking at really long jail time.

I can’t get past the idea that Trump is under 4 criminal indictments and is still running for POTUS.

Just because Trump is loved here on FR, we can’t ignore the charges against Trump while kicking Menendez out of office for allegations, this type of thing takes out people from both sides of the aisle.

Allegations? He was caught red-handed. Trump did nothing wrong. It’s ok to make value judgements. You are not a child...

Ask yourself this.

Trump is under 4 criminal indictments, should he be forced to drop out of the race for POTUS.

Remember Matt Gaetz had allegations made against him of having sex with underage girls and trafficking children, ultimately that investigation got dropped, should he have resigned over the allegations.

Remember Ted Stevens the Republican Senator from Alaska, he was charged and convicted of numerous felonies, he never resigned but lost his reelection.

Evidence came out later the government withheld evidence that could have changed the verdict, his conviction was thrown out, over government misconduct.

They’re numerous examples of government misconduct, you don’t know for sure what the evidence the government has against Menendez, except what you’ve read or heard in the media and we all know they would never lie and make up things. /sarcasm.

Personally, I think Menendez is scum and probably guilty, all I’m saying is the government is corrupt and can take people out, once charges are made, people deserve their day in court and we have many past examples of government misconduct. Let the system play out.

You don’t like Menendez and want him gone, they’re plenty of Democrats and Never Trumpers that want Trump gone, he’s under 4 criminal indictments, I’m sure they want him to drop out of the election.

I can list several Republicans that have had the government treat them the same way as Trump.

WOW, your hypocrisy on this issue shines bright.

Wow, Menendez was caught red handed. I am not an idiot. I can tell the difference. Trump is being politically prosecuted and you find moral equivilence? Screw off.
