She said the U.S. number one condiment is not "salsa," as the teacher apparently claimed, and that the number one American dish is hamburgers, and not "chicken tikka masala."

There was a story a few years back that salsa had become America's favorite condiment. I don't know what happened to that. More recent stories have ketchup and mayo battling it out.

The chicken tikka masala story, obviously false in the case of the US, may have come from Britain -- so much stuff on the internet does and people don't bother to check. Even in the case of Britain, fish and chips is probably still more popular.

Just for fun, somebody's idea of what the most popular condiment in each state. Peanut butter and Marshmallow Fluff are condiments? And Nutella is a popular condiment?
