'I am woke, ----------, and I love it,' he said

Radio host Howard Stern hit back at critics who called him "woke" during his show on Monday and said he took it as a "compliment" because he's "not for stupidity."

Stern mentioned a clip of a fan on YouTube who said he was a big fan of the "Howard Stern Show," but said he wasn't good anymore because he is "woke."

"By the way, I kind of take that as a compliment, that I’m woke. I’ll tell you how I feel about it. To me the opposite of woke, is being asleep. And if woke means I can’t get behind Trump, which is what I think it means, or that I support people who want to be transgender or I’m for the vaccine, dude, call me woke as you ------- want," Stern said.

You should care about the woke takeover of the U.S., or you agree with it?

This is the neurotic loser who hasn’t left his home for more than three years because of his COVID fears.

Who is this Howard Stern?

At one point years ago pretty good radio talk show host who is now so afraid of COVID that he stays at home most of the time, and probably has to say what he says to get some attention from his wife.

You shouldn't care.

I used to listen to Howard Stern about 20 years ago. He made a lot of racist jokes (one constant set in particular was the young African-American girl named “Dumberta”), even though he had a Jamaican assistant, Robin Quivers, and I think there is a photo of him in blackface.

The irrelevant seeking relevance.

Howard’s time passed thirty years ago.

In that case part of this may be he’s trying to make up for his alleged sins from the past.

So he wants to prove to us that he is liberal on transgender issues, as he noted , and perhaps other issues.

He’s afraid of the cancel culture so he’s trying to say and do things that will endear him to that crowd.

Then maybe he wants to remind all of us that he is still alive.

Thing is, back in the day he was regarded by some as being a First Amendment champion.

If he were to take a time ship from 2001 to today to see what he has become, he would freak out. The man has turned his back on what made him his fortune. He has become the censors and station GM’s he used to rail against.

What he fails to realize is that he very well could find himself the recipient of the Weinstein treatment from the same crowd he now embraces. His treatment of women and his jokes touch the third rail of the woke crowd.

I knew a guy in the radio business back in the 1990s who gave me a great education on how the industry works. He used Howard Stern as an example of how NOT to run a radio station profitably. At first I didn’t understand what he was talking about because Stern had a huge audience and great ratings on the airwaves at the time. But then this guy pointed something out to me that I still remember:

“His audience is mostly stunted high school kids who don’t have any purchasing power. That’s why his advertisers are companies you’d typically see on TV at 3:00 AM.”

In contrast, he pointed out how successful Stern’s nemesis Don Imus was on the air at the time. Imus had a much smaller audience than Stern, but it was dominated by middle-aged professionals who tuned into his show while commuting to high-paying jobs. At the time, advertisers on Imus’ radio show in the NYC metro area included luxury car brands, corporate/charter jet services, pharmaceutical companies, top investment banks, and even the New York Stock Exchange. A 30-second ad spot on Imus’ show was orders of magnitude more expensive than one on Stern’s show.
