Nikki Haley: Possible Government Shutdown an ‘Embarrassment,’ Congress ‘Has Been Lazy’
Breitbart ^ | 09/20/2023 | Pam Key

Former Gov. Nikki Haley (R-SC), a Republican presidential candidate, said Wednesday on Fox Business Channel’s “Varney & Co.” that if Congress shut down the government, it would be an “embarrassment.”

Haley said, “It’s not difficult to cut spending, you have to want to do it. Congress has been lazy for a long time. Biden has sent us down the socialism creek, but our Republicans have done this to us too. They need to get in a room, they need to figure it out.”

She added, “Taxpayers don’t want to hear about whether you’re going to shut down government or not shut down government. They want to hear you’re going to get in a room and fix it.”

First, and foremost, Congress needs to pass Legislation that enforces NO BACK PAY for ANY non-military employee, after the shutdown starts, AND, after the shutdown ends. During that period, NO ONE should be paid, period.

Otherwise, it's merely a paid vacation, with Taxpayers funding it.

Possible Government Shutdown

Good deal one way to stop all the wasteful spending.

D.C. boys and girls will be drinking early for a few days.

It’s not difficult to cut spending??

Okay, Nikki, what -specifically and meaningfully- do YOU propose to cut that will be supported by Democrats, RINOs, and Biden?

I’ll wait.

Grow up Haley, government ”shutdowns” are a routine charade and you know it.

Ridiculous. Is halley really that removed from reality. There is no budget, no agreement on spending because THAT is the desired outcome.

Last minute passage is the desired result.

Everybody has their pork and their sacred cows. Cutting the budget is something DC never does. Once in a while they fiddle with some or another program. But they really do need to dig in and start major carving of the budget.

I read somewhere else recently that with these sustained interest rates and debt sales plus existing debt, we are approaching about $2 trillion a year just in debt service. Someone would have to verify that I am not sure how accurate it is; but if it’s even close to true that is too high a percentage of the budget. Funny, nobody wants to talk much about that because as I said most everyone in DC has their pork and sacred cows to protect.

“Shut it down hell, blow it up.”

Even if it shut down for 2 months all the furloughed (non-essential) personnel will still get back pay! Pathetic

It’s actually just under a trillion now ($988 billion). It’s all a sham, a ruse. There is no budget. There is no money.

Let’s see, Biden has been starting new agencies within the government that don’t need to be there. I’d say that’s a great reason to shut down the government.

Nikki didn’t mind sucking up the US bucks pretending to work and collect a pay check at the UN (or whatever Trump assigned her to) Maybe she could have saved us a bunch of money if she got us out of UN?
