Alabama Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R) is refusing to back down from his decision to hold up more than 300 nonpolitical military promotions, despite growing pressure from Senate Republican colleagues and leaders.
Fellow Republican senators have criticized Tuberville’s strategy as a “mistake,” urging him to narrow his holds to Biden nominees who make policy decision and allow stalled nonpolitical military personnel to continue advancing in their careers.
Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell (Ky.) voiced his misgivings about Tuberville’s aggressive tactics Tuesday.
“I think holding these non-policymaking career military [officials] who can’t be involved in politics at all is a mistake, and we continue to work on that and I hope at some point we can get it clear,” he told reporters.
Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine), the vice chairwoman of the Senate Appropriations Committee and ranking member of its defense subcommittee, urged Tuberville on Tuesday to limit his holds to policymaking positions.

The Senate can call the roll on ANY and ALL promotions/commissions WHENEVER it wants.
And it will get cloture.
They could have gotten NUMEROUS ones of these approved by now.
But they like to do EVERYTHING by unanimous consent, so they don’t have to work between their many recesses.
“Nonpolitical military promotions” is an oxymoron.
Not true. They're all woke now.
I think our new, “LGBT All You Can Be” military has all the freaks it needs for right now.
Tubeeville is on track. What are Collins and McConnell concerned about, they're not being invited to Democrat cocktail parties?
Our top heavy and unprepared military will not change for the worse, especially because of its deeply flawed, woke leadership.
Thank you Senator Tuberville. Senator Mitch McConnell and Senator Susan Collins know each nominee can be brought up for a vote if majority Leader Charles Schumer schedules a vote. However Senator Schumer refuses to do this. Apparently uniparty members McConnell and Collins don’t want individual votes. Why ???

if McConnell and Schumer's delicate sensibilities are so offended, they can call for votes on each and every one of these pending promotions
An Army of Bun
Chuck Schumer can call on the Senate to hold a vote on any of these nominations right now.
+1
You can always be sure a Republican with a backbone will be attacked by those Republicans without one.
Could Schumer (or someone else) ask for unanimous consent on some occasion when Tubberville is not in the Senate chamber?
If your confused about an issue just look up Mitchell’s position on it and voila!!.......you’ll know to think the opposite of what he is saying.
Schumer could call a vote and take each candidate one by one, if he wants, but the political theater is better.
The natural inclination for Republican leadership is to attack their own. Not a word about the arguably illegal actions of the administration. Not a single attack directed toward Schumer, not approving these promotions through regular order. They want Tuberville to cave so they can get back to idly complaining
And they pretend they don’t understand why Trump is leading such a movement.
Is it wrong to force the Senate to take a vote?
NONE of those Senators want to be on the distinct record of their votes.
Good for him! I’m glad to see he’s standing his ground on this issue.
