'Dangerous?' Why most Georgia Republicans aren't picking 2024 candidates yet
Arca Max (The Atlanta Journal-Constitution) ^ | September 9, 2023 | Greg Bluestein

Donald Trump has an enormous lead over his rivals in every poll of GOP voters in Georgia. He has soaked up attention and fundraising dollars. And some Republicans say the sweeping charges leveled against the former president have only reinforced their support for him.

Yet, in a clear sign of deep squeamishness over Trump, most of the state’s top Republican elected officials have yet to back his comeback bid or — in rare cases — are siding with other GOP hopefuls they see as more formidable challengers to President Joe Biden.

The skepticism over Trump extends far beyond Gov. Brian Kemp and other statewide officials who spurned his demands to overturn his election defeat — and then walloped Trump-backed challengers that the former president promoted to exact revenge.

Only a handful of Republican elected officials have backed the former president so far this election cycle, as even key Trump loyalists have avoided endorsing him...

...

“Not a single swing voter in a single swing state will vote for our nominee if they choose to talk about the 2020 election being stolen,” Kemp told Republican donors earlier this year...

While Kemp’s stance is not surprising, the cautious approach from Trump-aligned politicians is. Many of the most ardent Trump supporters have yet to endorse him — including Lt. Gov. Burt Jones, who won an open race last year with the former president’s support.

...

“Some people are disappointed. They love Trump. I get that — it’s OK. But we’re determining our own future,”...

“The people who are loving Trump — I get it,” McCormick said. “But I think they’ll come around.”

Trump’s top allies in Georgia say they’re confused why more high-profile Republicans haven’t formally endorsed him yet, particularly those who backed him in 2016 and 2020.

The Georgia GOP is no fiend to Conservatives. Why anyone would tout the leadership’s opinions as something to follow is beyond me.

Interesting that only the little people support President Trump, the high & the mighty are either supporting the Uniparty & Biden or awaiting to see which way the wind’s blowing closer to primary day.

MAGA believes in government of, by and for the citizens of the United States of America.

The Swamp believes in government of, by and for the professional, affirmative-action criminal bureaucrats and educrats of The Swamp.

I am independent and not paid by any political campaign. I am also a longtime supporter of this forum. Since 2002.

Are you still disappointed that you weren’t able to sell a your DWAC stocks for $10.24/share? That outed you as a total hack. All of your opinions are worthless as a result.

As an independent, do you have any vote in the primaries? If not, and if you support Trump, why are you not registered as a Republican so you can cast your vote for Trump? Even if I don’t support your choice, I do support you having the opportunity to cast your vote. Otherwise, like a few of my dear friends that are not registered to vote, you words and enthusiasm are wasted and a distraction.

Trump picked up 12 million voters, many traditional non voters, the last election cycle. I see Trump continuing that trend, with election integrity being an important issue for many of these people.

Kemp is uniparty establishment. His "don't talk about the election steal" is right from their playbook. Just like Ron.

Wow, I'm so surprised WEF Kemp doesn't want to talk about election fraud.

And what is the MAGA Patriots’ plan for the general when Fulton Co.undoubtedly cheats again? Crowing over the nomination is one thing, but in the general, Trump has no viable path to 270 without Georgia.

Its going to be a much longer time until the next general election. Likely time enough for Ron DeDesperate to serve the 4 year term he was actually elected to. 😉

Around 500 days until inauguration. That seems so far, far away. If he lives, 500 more days of Biden. Now that’s depressing.

There isn’t going to be a 2024 election. What do you think President Trump means when he says repeatedly “we’ve decided on a full 4 year pause?”. Who do you think “ we” is?

You can’t have another national election until the country has been fixed. So far nothing has been fixed. It will likely take 4 years to do that.

This is like 911. You see the President riding around in a full presidential motorcade with huge police escort, state department level security team and ambulance. Expressways closed down when he rides through cities. But the press tells you he’s the former President. And even though you know for a fact that former presidents don’t get these things you still ignore your lying eyes and believe them.

Ron DeSantis and every other candidate are just pawns on the chessboard. This is the Trump Saves America show.
