PORTLAND, Ore. — Nike says it is permanently closing its store on Northeast Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard while saying it remains committed to “supporting and uplifting Portland’s North and Northeast community.”
In a statement, it said it is reimaging its retail space and is considering future locations “as part of this community’s long term revitalization plan.”
Nike had closed the store while it looked for ways to improve safety for its employees and customers. It had sent a letter to the city requesting that off-duty police officers work at the store.
In its statement Friday, Nike did not mention that.

Nike makes it big selling shoes that are not worth (in terms of material and workmanship) the price to a community that largely can’t afford them. It encourages the spread of thug culture rather than lifting people up. And it’s also known for horrible sweatshop/factory conditions overseas. It’s a terrible company.
Wouldn’t Euclid Ave. in East Cleveland have deserved the honor of a MLK designation?
I had to find a business there once, and am glad I won’t have to go back.
Just wait until we get “Barack Obama Boulevards” in all of our cities.
LOL
I went to this store about a year ago, early morning, there was QUITE a security force inside. It was a useless trip, they didn’t have what we were looking for. Nor did the downtown store, nor did any of the outlets.
Why advertise shoes that you don’t have in stock anywhere? (And these weren’t the stupid limited edition $600 Air Jordans.)
Shoe deserts
Thuggery wins out.
That’s Racist.
ISn’t Portland NIKE’s Corporate home???
Tough to watch this happen to one of the companies that pioneered Virtue Signaling. Well, no, actually it’s sort of amusing.
Easy, just hire only "Locals", as drivers.
We don't say "looting" anymore. The proper term is "justice shopping."
If they just stock work boots they will not have a problem....
Nearly all crime in oregon comes from that neighborhood.
Well played sir!
When Nike requested off duty police assist with security, they responded with “the city simply didn’t have enough officers on staff and couldn’t get more trained and certified fast enough.”
Who in their right mind would want to be a policeman in Portland, Seattle, San Francisco, Chicago, etc, etc.
The current MLK Blvd name replaced Liberty Blvd. It was named in memory of the men lost in World War I. Just the start of renaming historical places to destroy the past.
Excellent points....Too bad it goes right over the heads of “”woke”” companies...Capitalism means customers and a business that contributes to the community in jobs and place for customers....””Woke”” means deserts....Food ,crime, loss to community....
