The first GOP presidential debate was held on August 23 in Milwaukee. Present were eight candidates whose combined polling was less than that of Donald Trump. For two hours, they talked about being the future of the Republican Party: how they would boost the economy, lower inflation, secure the border, and improve education.
Trump already did that. And what he's talking about now, in appearances that draw many times the number who attended the first debate, isn't just undoing Biden's mistakes and doing what he did before all over again, but even more. Trump has a vision beyond anything the eight little voices are capable of: a vision of returning America to its citizens and unleashing growth and opportunity beyond anything seen before, anywhere.
The eight little voices had their carefully prepared remarks on how to restore America, but they were only words without a great man's forcefulness and will. Vivek Ramaswamy did indeed sound a bit like ChatGPT, as Chris Christie charged. Ramaswamy argued that climate change is a hoax, a point I agree with, but he failed to back up the claim with convincing detail. Nikki Haley seemed to think she was entitled to the nomination because she was the only woman on the stage. The day after the debate, no one could remember anything Tim Scott said.
For the most part, the candidates were just sniping at one another instead of presenting a compelling case for their nomination. Pence thoughtlessly argued that Vivek is too young, others too old; he, Pence, is just right in terms of age. By that logic, Reagan was too old, Kennedy too young, Nixon just right.

Doug Burgum and Tim Scott didn't even have one memorable statement for me to rebut.
Trump is old news. He's so 2016.
Trump is chronologically old, but what’s wrong with his energy and ideas?
It's an excellent snippet and describes perfectly why I will continue to support Ron DeSantis until he is officially out of the race, polls be damned.
"In my humble opinion, why did Ron DeSantis win that debate?" (Twitter)
You could see the same thing happen to Dubya at the end of his presidency. He was a defeated man.
RE: Mark Levin sums up why he believes DeSantis won the debate.
What is DeSantis’ opinion on the indictments against Trump?
He had his shot and today the swamp is deeper and swampier than ever.
And, most importantly, even if he wanted do all the swamp draining this time that he said he'd do last time but didn't, he has no path to the White House to accomplish this.
Yeah, right now he's a cinch for the nomination. I'll give him that. But that's where it ends for Donald Trump and he's going to bring the rest of us to devastation with his delusions of returning to the White House.
From 08/15/2023:
“I think it’s an example of this criminalization of politics,” DeSantis said while on a press call with New England media. “I don’t think this is something that’s good for the country.”
DeSantis, also a 2024 presidential candidate, claimed Atlanta has “huge problems with crime right now” and called the city’s approach to crime “less than exacting.” “I think there are criminals that they’ve let out that shouldn’t have been let out,” DeSantis said. “And so now they’re doing an inordinate amount of resources to try to shoehorn this contest over the 2020 election into a RICO statute, which was really designed to be able to go after organized crime.”
He's long maintained this is a kangaroo court.
RE: He had his shot and today the swamp is deeper and swampier than ever.
Errr.... the swamp is deeper and swampier today BECAUSE TRUMP GOT CHEATED OUT OF HIS ELECTION VICTORY IN 2020. The deeper and swampier observation you see is the result of almost 3 years of Joe Biden being President.
And Who among the list of GOP candidates can do a better job draining the swamp, and tell us why you think so.
When I was a kid, the adults sat at the dining room table and the kids sat at a table set up in the living room which was open to the dining room.
The eight at the so-called debate belonged at the kids’ table.
DeSantis is draining the swamp in Florida as we speak. Listen to the Mark Levin clip I posted above.
Ask yourself this: Donald Trump has been the leader of the GOP since 2016. Are the Democrats nationwide today more powerful or less powerful than they were in 2016?
Ron DeSantis has been the leader of the Florida GOP since 2018. Are Democrats in Florida more powerful or less powerful than they were in 2018?
“New energy. New ideas.”
examples?
Yea! Mark Levine said Desantis won the debate! That and $2.50 will get you a cup of hot coffee at any mcdonald’s in the U.S.A. ...
a very good year
Vivek Ramaswamy brought a lot of energy and that was a good thing. He pointed out that climate change is a hoax, we need to make that argument.
I agree but 2016 was in the past.
Vivek and the Seven Dwarfs.
But DJT towers above ALL of them put together!
Even if DeSantis did win the debate, which is questionable, Trump is still way ahead.
Trump seems stronger than ever to me.
