Police Warns Public to Guard Against Scams Linked to Presidential Election

Singaporeans will need to be vigilant in not falling for scams linked to the presidential election, the police said.

In a statement on Saturday, the police said scammers may impersonate government officials or election candidates to solicit banking or personal information.

They could also ask for banking credentials and one-time passwords via SMS or unsolicited phone and in-app calls, such as through WhatsApp, the statement added.

It said: “They may also use the display photos of the people they are impersonating to perpetrate scams, which may include soliciting bank transfers.

“Members of the public are advised not to transfer money to anyone without verification and to never share their banking credentials”.

The police also urged the public to install the ScamShield app, set security features for Internet banking transactions and check for scam signs with official sources, such as calling the anti-scam hotline on 1800-722-6688.

People should also inform the authorities, family and friends about potential scams and not be pressured by scammers to act impulsively, the statement said.

Responding to queries on Friday, an Elections Department (ELD) spokesman said people need to be wary of websites with clickable links that claim to be from ELD.

There have been instances of images circulating online that look like the ELD website, with instructions for ineligible voters to “click a link below” to have their names restored to the registers of electors.

The spokesman said: “Voters should ascertain their voting status via official sources only, such as through ELD’s Voter Services page at ELD’s official website or via the Singpass app. Those who are unable to do so electronically can call ELD’s hotline on 1800-CALL-ELD (1800-2255-353).”

The spokesman added that the ELD will not ask for any bank details or personal details via SMS or unsolicited phone calls.

I’d put Vivek Ramalamadingdong in that category.

That sounds like all voters will have to be on guard against democrat candidates. They’re all scammers.

My thoughts exactly.

After years of watching Presidential elections, I have come to the conclusion that there is an under the table handshake between the two parties to share the Office of the President.
When one party has a strong candidate the other party then runs a weak candidate. Think of McGovern, Mondale, Dukakis, Kerry and Gore as the weak ones against strong Republican candidates.
Then think of Dole, McCain and Romney as weak candidates against strong Democrat candidates. When Sarah Palin became too popular at campaigning the Republicans held her back.

As for the 2016 election, Hillary was the chosen strong candidate against a man who was not a politician. She was already deemed the President, polls and interviews showed she was going to be the winner no matter what. No need to “cheat”.
The Election was just a formality, the magazines declaring her the winner had already been printed.
One problem. TRUMP overwhelmingly won, throwing everything into a cocked hat. Since that time the elites that secretly decide elections have worked overtime to remove Trump.
In the last election Trump drew thousands to his rallies but Biden drew maybe a bus load and flies. The election showed Trump ahead till thousands of suddenly, under mysterious circumstances, “found” votes gave it to Biden. The “Fix” was in. They could not afford to let Trump win.

Now think back to 1980. The Dems screamed that Ronald Reagan was too old to be President as he was 70 years of age when he took office. There were bets he would not last his first term, and one magazine had an illustration of Reagan laying on an autopsy table.
Yet now the Dems are pushing a 78 year old near senile old man claiming he is the best for the job. I bet Kamalla Harris is chomping at the bit to take over. Probably the only way a woman will get the Presidency. Jill better watch Biden’s back close.

One egregious scam chronicled on FR to be very wary of........

You think you’re giving a one time donation to a candidate of say $35.00 on your credit card.

But month after month the $35.00 donation appears.

Even cancelling the credit card number for a new one does not work....
the scammers find you and keep sucking up the $35 bucks.

Who do I call to make a report?

There are already several really big scams under way.

In Florida, NY City, Washington DC and Atlanta democrats are interfering with the coming election by cooking up bogus legal charges and indictments in a balls-to-the-wall plot to take out the likely republican candidate.

Is there a reward for reporting these scams to the authorities?

Get the word out. First Tuesday after the first Monday in November 2024, Republicans vote. Second Tuesday after the second Monday in November 2024, it’s the democrats turn.

Ramaswamy’s debating method was a cinch.....to act like an overcaffeinated version of Sen. Ted Cruz.

Press and social media observations were not what
one would consider flattering: Annoying. Irritating. Glib.

It was the consensus that the guy behaved like a jackass.

It wasn’t just liberals dissing the smug know-it-all.

The other Republicans on the debate stage seemed genuinely miffed at his presence there.

Is he running for office or looking to land a talk show?

“Many of us went to school on the yellow school bus, right? And it’s part of our experience growing up. It’s part of a nostalgia and a member of the excitement and joy of going to school to be with your favorite teacher, to be with your best friends, and to learn. The school bus takes us there.”
