I was checkin the old eyes for cracks. Beef veggie soup and brownies contributed to my delinquincy.

What speed did the winds max out at? Before or after she came ashore? I had her aimed directly at Perry, or about 8 miles NW of Dekla beach at around 0300. Where did landfall actually end up?

The eyewall was weird around 2-ish. West side kept splitting into two layers, transforming energy from the inner to the outer, but each time it re-merged into one band on the south side instead of going fully ERC.

“Oh gosh. GeorgiaDawg32 evacuated to Valdosta.”

It appears the storm has strayed further west than predicted. I’m east of Atlanta. We are getting steady rain that seems to be picking up now. Valdosta is getting a lot of rain and probably some steady wind but I think GeorgiaDawe32 should be fine as long as hunkering down in a strong building was the plan.

In case y’all missed it, the boss-lady was up at 2am, forwarding the latest NHC data.

Nauti’s still earning her stripes.

NN’s hurricane threads are a great service to all. The expertise and predictions (usually spot on) gives us an idea of what to expect and the knowledge provided as to technical terms is unparalleled for a “chat” site. I always look for the NN thread on FR when one is forecast for the gulf or east coast.

I stifled a chuckle when I saw Idalia heading for Vidalia.

Dang it! It is very cool (67°) and calm in Michigan, but now I want brownies just because.

The worst excuse for a POTUS in history has taken full credit for smooth operations leading up to and following Hurricane Idalia, and he is taking full credit for replacing wood utility poles with concrete and burying electric cables in Florida. The demented pervert is "laser focused" on the Maui fires. Everything is due to climate change. This is why he wants to bury electric cables in Maui.

Meanwhile, Mayorkas is standing over Briben's shoulder, looking like the dolt he is.

Not sure, but I think Kamala is coming to Florida to bother cleanup operations.

Thanks for the update, FRiend. So far things look good in Bluffton, SC... just rain. That’s per friends who are there and via the security camera attached to the front of our house.

We're almost at Closest Point of Approach (CPA) for Idalia.

Pressure is at 29.42 in. with light winds from the SSE. it was gusting to 30+ kts 45 minutes ago.

We've gotten some needed rain. No limbs down but lots of leaves and pine straw.

Does Bite-Me think that Florida Power, Tampa Electric, and the other utilities in the area don’t think for themselves? It isn’t his call - the fact is, the storm hit at a less populated area and thus caused less damage to man-made installations.

I have a feeling that the Crystal River power plant was secured, and shut down if necessary, pre-landfall. Without Biden’s “guidance”.

A hurricane awning is a nice big shade awning, retractable.

Citrus county has lots of flooding west of SR 19 along the coast in Crystal River Sheriff’s office conducting water rescues. Similarly Homosassa just to the south of Crystal River has lots of flooding west of 19.

I haven’t seen any flooding myself east of 19.

Re the recurve to eastern FL, the latest model guidance shows the remnants west of Bermuda starting to drift west but eventually picked up again by jet stream and heading northeast past Cape Cod and Newfoundland with transition to ordinary low pressure ending up in Ireland about 16 days from now. Still a chance of it recurving all the way back to FL but not the most likely outcome.

On another site I was reading that there was substantial damage in Perry FL inland from the landfall site around Keaton Beach FL which is no doubt severely impacted by both wind and surge damage.

Why in the hell would you evacuate to the path of the storm?

Somebody on FR gave that advice.

Dawg was thinking Miami. That made all the sense in the world.

I don’t remember the thread.
