RICHMOND — Media mogul Rupert Murdoch has repeatedly encouraged Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin (R) to run for president in 2024, according to two people familiar with entreaties made in at least two face-to-face meetings.
The previously unreported meetings took place months ago, but Murdoch’s ask has taken on fresh relevance as Youngkin continues to lay the groundwork for a potential last-minute White House bid and as Murdoch outlets hyped his presidential prospects this month with a mix of sober Wall Street Journal analysis and buzzy Page Six blurbs.

Yung-Kin???
Sounds Chinese to me.
Youngkin was the first Republican to win a statewide election in Virginia since 2009. Even if he won by one single voter (he won by a two-point margin), it was pretty impressive what he did.
Still don't really care for him for president though.
You mean his stunning polling numbers where he's currently trailing Joe Biden in the RCP average? This is usually when a challenger's numbers to an incumbent are at its highest too. During the campaign the incumbent usually improves, probably more so if you nominate a candidate with a very real chance of becoming a convicted felon prior to Election Day in November 2024.
Seems to be only the school boards in the counties around DC. Loudoun, Fairfax and Arlington.
Youngkin needs at least six or seven years as a successful governor so maybe he runs in 2028. Let’s hope he doesn’t jump the shark.
“Whatever you can say about Carlyle Group Lizard Man Youngkin, he will probably be a more competent candidate than deSantis.”
I can’t think of anyone less competent than DeSantis. But if Youngkin does have a brain, he’ll understand that he he CANNOT defeat Trump head-to-head (I have no clue why Mrs. DeSantis thought that was possible, but I digress).
So, given that, Youngkin will need to be seen as siding with Trump, as Vivek is now, and then if Trump ends up not being able to run (for any reason), then Youngkin could take his place. If not, then he should do what Vivek is likely to do and quietly move on to other things.
“There’s no chance with Trump.”
You guys are TOO FUNNY!
If Gov. Youngkin takes the bait, we will know, I mean definitely, know he is, like Gov. DeSantis, an establishment stooge. And he’ll go down just like DeSantis is doing, and for the same reason, stepping in front of Trump’s power train.
Thanks for posting this.
After Rhonda Santis failed to launch, Murdoch, Musk, and other WEF billionaires have been desperate to promote an alternative. Some have settled on Ramaswamy, others on Tim Scott. Murdoch is going for his fellow Wall Street slimeball.
I think that is right.
Youngkin knows a kamikaze run against Trump in 2024 will kill him for 2028. At the same time he wants his name out there amongst the GOPe as the best option.
(I agree that the influence of the Mrs is a big part of why the DeSantis campaign has been such a fiasco)
“If Trump, with his polling #s can’t win, the Globalist, NeoCon milk toast pretend MAGA candidates don’t have a chance in Hell!”
Exactly right. These anti-Trump Republicans are claiming that their candidates have a better chance, but the polls do not reflect that. Only Trump can unlock millions of votes from people who hate the bloodless vulture capitalists like Youngkin.
Virginia governors aren’t eligible for reelection (I think). So this was a smart move for Youngkin. Serve out the term and then weigh your options. If he runs in 2028 he won’t have people saying he turned his back on the state to run for president, and he’ll be able to focus on the campaign, rather than on things back home.
Yes, the total inexperience and astounding arrogance of Casey Rodham DeSantis really stopped her from seeing what is so obvious to pretty much every Republican.
Murdoch has moved on from the Meatball.
Yes, but they had some GOPe snakes, Trump haters, consultants and others who had a personal financial interest in a DeSantis run - even if he lost.
They told the DeSantis what they wanted to hear. And frankly, if Ron couldn’t say no to Casey, he will never be ready for the White House.
He is not going to take on the Deep State if he can’t even get his own woman under control.
