Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) has gently nudged his Republican counterparts in the House of Representatives to pump the brakes on chatter of impeaching President Biden.
“I said two years ago, when we had not one but two impeachments, that once we go down this path it incentivizes the other side to do the same thing,” McConnell told the New York Times in an interview published Tuesday.
"Impeachment ought to be rare,” he added. “This is not good for the country.”

Here is my problem with Mitch. There is a case to be made that impeaching Biden will hurt the GOP. Biden is slowly sinking and an impeachment will rally Dems and perhaps independents around him. So perhaps keep investigating and letting Biden sink under the weight of all the investigations. But that is not what Mitch is saying. Mitch is under the delusion that the Democrats won’t impeach the next Republican president irrespective of what the Republicans do. Mitch is arguing for unilateral disarmament. He says “don’t impeach Biden” but has no answer for how Republicans fight back against relentless partisanship that borders on illegality and that is turning the US into a banana republic. Mitch is saying let the US be a banana republic when the Dems are in charge but the Republicans should simply play by the rules.
