That's cold: Three-quarters of Republicans prioritize the economy over climate change
NPR ^ | August 3, 2023 | by Domenico Montanaro (D-NPR)

It's hot. And some apparently don't mind it that way.

The latest heat wave is fueled by human-caused climate change from burning fossil fuels, but despite the settled science, the overwhelming evidence and the billions of dollars in increases for disaster preparation and recovery that climate change is costing the country, Republicans have grown more skeptical of the need to prioritize fixing it, according to the latest NPR/PBS NewsHour/Marist poll.

Overall, a majority of respondents – 53% – said addressing climate change should be given priority even at the risk of slowing the economy. That included 80% of Democrats and 54% of independents.

But almost three-quarters of Republicans (72%) said the economy should be given priority, even at the risk of ignoring climate change. That is up 13 points since 2018 – despite the increases in climate-change-related weather disasters.

Former President Donald Trump, the current front runner for the GOP nomination once again, has talked down the impact of climate change for years now.

And yet despite all the evidence, Trump has lied and called climate change a "hoax" and implied that it would only "may affect us in 300 years" and only see a sea level rise of 1/8 inch.

Little could be further from the scientific consensus.

The survey did find that younger Americans, however, are the most likely of any age bracket to say climate change is affecting their community (72%), represent a major threat (64%) and should take priority over the economy (59%).

So there could be changes to policy, but it's looking much farther down the road.

They call anyone who disagrees with them a liar.

And of course, they claim President Trump lied when he correctly called it a "hoax"

Imagine 40 years ago someone contemplating which is more important, the nation’s economy or the weather?

“The latest heat wave is fueled by human-caused climate change from burning fossil fuels, but despite the settled science”

Oh here we go again with the “ settled science”
Which is progressive codespeak for “the debates are over”

The last time we heard that, it was accompanied by the phrase “ safe and effective”

Republicans who prioritize climate change over the economy are not Republicans.

This morning in NH we had 44 degrees at 5:30 am. It’s August for God’s sake. They tell you about the hot places in the world but totally ignore the cooler than normal parts of the country. I’m sick of it.

Unfortunately they nearly all prioritize their own economy over our nation’s sovereignty and our citizenry’s constitutional rights.

--- "That's cold: Three-quarters of Republicans prioritize the economy over climate change"

Bloody stupid NPR.

The first sentence needs be examined more closely:

"The latest heat wave is fueled by human-caused climate change from burning fossil fuels, but despite the settled science, the overwhelming evidence and the billions of dollars in increases for disaster preparation and recovery that climate change is costing the country, Republicans have grown more skeptical of the need to prioritize fixing it, according to the latest NPR/PBS NewsHour/Marist poll.", 2) The topic itself is a trick, because climate ALWAYS changes.

3) "Fossils" fuels as a fact has never been proven, but also asserted. Hydrocarbons might well be abiotic, although all the articles and comments about this begin with assertions of "debunked." Ergo, assertions. Hydrocarbons are hydro -- water -- and carbons -- carbon -- act in a geologic process since they are found in-- what a surprise -- the earth's crust. Like all sorts of things....

4) No clarity in "settled science," as science, like the weather and like climate, changes. > 5) The "billions of dollars in increases" is because of politics.

6) lastly, in one little sentence, "according to the latest NPR/PBS NewsHour/Marist poll." Poll. A Poll. Proving everything it seems. Because that's what we are supposed to conclude from a push poll.

So long as the elite pushing global cooling warming climate change boiling (that's the latest word) keep buying mansions on the beach I doubt their belief in their own propaganda.

Similarly, if you tell me to "eat ze bug!" you better have cricket breath.

This morning in NH we had 44 degrees at 5:30 am. It’s August for God’s sake.

I'm in Missouri and it's 6:30 am and ~72 degrees. The next 3 days will be mid to upper 80s daytime, mid 70s overnight. Mostly cloudy with scatter rain. The next 7 days after that are forecasted to be low to mid 80s daytime and mid to upper 60s at night. August, our "hottest" time of year. I'll take it and hope it keeps up.

Though I register Republican so so I can vote in the primaries. I no longer consider myself a Republican. They are the party of Mitten Romney …..McConnell and Linda Graham Cracker. Don’t align me with them.
