Ukraine: The CIA’s 75-year-old Proxy
Covert Action Magazine ^ | 9/12/22 | Gerald Sussman

It takes a musical artist to cut through the morass of propaganda to educate American mainstream media (MSM) about the Russia-Ukraine crisis and the roleof the United States in instigating that conflict for its own nefarious ends.

The MSM have constructed an undiluted narrative about “Putin’s War” that disguises America’s imperialist expansion into eastern Europe. It is utterly Orwellian in its effort to project onto Russia what the U.S. and its main imperial ally, the UK (which a British journalist deemed “America’s tugboat”), have been doing non-stop since 1945—and indeed for centuries.

Looking back, the U.S. under Truman began the policy of turning enemies (Germany, Japan) into friends and friends (the important war-time alliance with the USSR) into enemies. The CIA, established in 1947, was the main clandestine instrument of this policy, working closely with the neo-Nazi Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists (OUN) to carry out acts to sabotage, divide and destabilize the Soviet state.

Russia funded the “green” movement in the West to make oil more expensive.

Haven't we supported conservative Republicans to thwart this agenda?

Question: Would have rather seen the Soviet Union win the Cold War?

National Geographic, article by David Stern, MAY 30, 2014 -- and from that article, EXCERPTS:

Anti-Semitism is something Ukrainians on either side of the political divide accuse their enemies of, but it's a label they themselves assiduously avoid. Jew baiting is political poison—openly anti-Semitic candidates are repeatedly punished at the ballot box.

That this is the reality in Ukraine, a place with a tragic Jewish past, is perhaps paradoxical. But Ukraine is a different country today.

"The Ukrainian radical right is now in a clear and open struggle," said Vyacheslav Likhachev, a Jewish-Ukrainian expert on the far right. "Their enemy is not Jews, but Russia and pro-Russian supporters and activists in Ukraine."

Russian far-right groups such as Russian National Unity and the Eurasian Youth Union are active in the separatist cause, and Pavel Gubarev, the self-declared "peoples' governor" of Donetsk is a former neo-Nazi.

- - -

During the past two decades, Western and Ukrainian historians have uncovered wartime atrocities by the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists (OUN) and Ukrainian Insurgent Army (UPA, according to its Ukrainian acronym), two groups that fought for Ukrainian independence.

But assigning collective guilt would be a gross injustice to Ukrainians. Collaboration with the Nazis was rife throughout Europe. Anti-Semitic attitudes were indeed common among Ukrainians, but many weren't anti-Semites, and the number who didn't assist the Nazis was much, much greater.

Moreover, a significant number risked their lives to shield Jews. Ukrainians are the fourth largest group listed among Yad Vashem's "Righteous Among the Nations."

Millions of Ukrainians in the Red Army also fought the Nazis, and many of them helped liberate the concentration and death camps.

Lot of very good info in that article about Ukrainian nazism. But the author sounds like an old school communist in his attacks on Harry Truman and his conduct of WWII. Truman didn’t nuke Japan to keep Russia out. There was probably a small element of that, but it was also to prevent the million casualties we would have taken in invading Japan home islands.

And that was way over the line how he said that after the war Truman was “busy turning enemies into friends and friends into enemies”. In the late 40s Stalin was never a friend. Truman got rolled in creating the CIA, but he clearly thought he was creating a clearinghouse for all incoming Intel and not a murder Inc and assassination squad.

The writer could have told this important story without sounding like Pravda circa 1935.

“The first issue of the Covert Action Information Bulletin was launched at a press conference in Havana, Cuba, coinciding with the 11th World Festival of Youth and Students.
The magazine was founded by former CIA officer turned agency critic Philip Agee, William Schaap, James and Elsie Wilcott, Ellen Ray, William Kunstler, Michael Ratner, and Lou Wolf in 1978”

This important story is unfortunately seriously tainted with the worst of American communists from the 1970s. Makes it hard to know where the BS ends and the facts are. Too bad.

But denying the problem both exists in 2023 and was supported by the US is gaslighting on par with both democrats and the government-controlled US media.

Congrats.

This is nonsence, we were fighting The Soviet Union. AFTER the Cold War, NATO should have been disbanded.

Ad hominem.

Kudos for exercising your leftist training.

Got anything substantive to contribute, or just more worthless dirt?

This sums things up well:

The Ukraine crisis is also a sponsored war, as Kyiv’s assault on the Donbas region is ultimately in the U.S. interest, as its resources, including a “highly developed coal industry, ferrous-metallurgy industry, machine building, chemical industry, and construction industry, enormous energy resources, diversified agriculture, and a dense transportation network” are lusted over by transnational capital and finance.

Beyond Ukraine lies the vast territory of Russia and untold wealth of energy, strategic minerals, and other resources that call out to a globally expansionist and militarist corporate capitalist system like the U.S. There are certainly ways out of the present crisis in Ukraine, but they require the neutralization of the country and its conversion to a demilitarized state that, with the U.S. alliance, respects and enforces the rights and equality of its ethnic Russian population.

The West also has to acknowledge on some level Russia’s legitimate security interests, which have become compromised by the horde of NATO forces far too close to its borders. The concept of state security is enshrined in the United Nations Charter, and the avoidance of an even larger catastrophe requires that the U.S. act in compliance with UN dicta for peace and remove its obstacles to a negotiated settlement, which is in the long-term interest of Ukraine, Russia, and the rest of the world.
