Staten Island’s bitter opposition to the MTA’s congestion pricing plan has revived the borough’s long-dormant secession movement.
“I think it’s time to secede,” Rep. Nicole Malliotakis (R-Staten Island) told The Post. “There’s no real value in being part of this city or the state. We didn’t vote for this mayor; we didn’t vote for this governor; and we didn’t vote for this president, but we’re always the ones getting screwed.”
Malliotakis and City Council Minority Leader Joe Borelli are planning to join Staten Island Borough President Vito Fossella’s expected lawsuit against the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, which seeks to block plans to charge drivers up to $23 to enter Manhattan below 60th Street.

Who are they going to align with? Jersey?
Staten Island should become a sovereign nation with its own military.
LOL
Maybe the Russian federation :-)
Oh wait, the communists run the city and state
Malliotakis ... didn’t she happily vote for, at least, some of Biden’s budgets or CRs or whatever they’re called these days? Saying how great they would be for her district and all the money they would bring in for infrastructure projects, etc?
If you’re from NYC, I suggest not moving to Alabama. It’s horrible here.

Back in the Middle Ages there used to be independent city-states. Perhaps Staten Island should consider that. Just remember to build a wall around the island with watchtowers here and there.
(Just kidding, of course. No way would NY state or NYC let them go.)
“Staten Island’s congestion-pricing fight spurs new push to leave NYC: ‘It’s time’”
IDIOTS. If they leave NYC, then they’ll no longer get their free ferry service to the rest of the city. Hmmm, come to think of it, neither will people going in the opposite direction.
So when’s the vote and I do I volunteer to help out!
Staten Island derives enormous benefits from the city’s income, sales, and property tax revenues generated in Manhattan. The borough’s last secession movement ended in the early 1990s when a detailed financial analysis showed how much the borough’s property taxes would skyrocket if it had to cover the cost of its schools, police/fire/EMT, and other municipal services out of its own tax revenues.
She’s on her second term. Staten Island is a Republican stronghold. If it weren’t her another Republican would be elected.
She’s typical for the state though. More Dem than Republican even though she has an R after her name.
Alabama is as hot as Arizona and the people are unfriendly and rude and taxes are higher than Californiastan.
Charge $23 to enter Staten Island?
Staten Island leans Republican. I’d worry more about Manhattanites moving to FL. Which I wouldn’t advise doing, due to hurricanes, alligators, flying cockroaches (palmetto bugs), intense summer heat, lizards, pythons, fire ants, etc.
Communists are here now, not there. Try to keep up. :)
Sure it’s time. But you can be sure NY City isn’t going to let Staten Island go.
They desperately need the tax dollars so they can open up more hotel rooms to illegals and homeless - and fund Bragg to go after Trump.
Same for eastern Washington, nothing but white superminis and freedom loving Hispanics who hate white gringo liberals.
Hot with the bonus of stifling humidity!
Terrible. We don’t even have indoor plumbing yet. Ignorant inbred rednecks everywhere. I suggest Yankees move elsewhere.
