Poland has reiterated its claim on €1.3 trillion ($1.4tn) in damages caused by Germany’s invasion and occupation of its territory during the Second World War while making comparisons to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine that Berlin will likely find uncomfortable and has so far seemingly tried to ignore.

Germany should lead by example on the Ukraine war and settle accounts with neighbouring Poland, which it invaded and occupied between 1939 and 1945, causing terrible harm and subjecting the nation to the Holocaust, Polish Secretary of State for Europe Arkadiusz Mularczyk has said.

Soviets dismantled entire German factories and shipped them back to the Soviet Union.==

Not true. They forced Germans to produce NEW factories and shipped them new to USSR. Old factories was junk none wanted them. But new one was needed. And many model of German cars reengineered of cause was produced in USSR after the war.

For example. Opel Capitan was reengineered as Moskvich 401. And few more. Also German engines was used as a models for soviet engines. Also German engineers too. Say for Verner von Brown project.

Also Soviets kept German POWs busy in USSR until they rebuilded everything was destroyed in a western part of country. German POWs was delayed in until 1955. 10 Years of work of rebuilding.

Poland didn`t exist between 1792 and 1917,
Its was a´lucky country’ that started to exists only because Germany wanted to have a puffer between Russia and Germany after WW1. Russia lost WW1 - seldom mentioned in the anglosaxon world - and was forced to this arrangement.
However in 2018 Germany/Austria lost WW1 and were stripped by all of it´s colonies and some traditional europian core land. This was divided between the ‘winners’ and some was given to ‘new´ Poland to keep Germany down.
There is some argue today, that this was the actual reason for WW2.
After WW2 and 1998 and after the cold war ended, Germany got only reunited by giving huge junks of traditional german
land to again ´lucky´ Poland.
Now this is obviously not enough for Poland - even during a possible upcoming war - they want additional payment from a NATO partner!!
As German I say - enough is enough - why don`you defend yourself alone again the russians. We live with them for longer than the USA exists and will find a solution without having to defend Poland.

Solid point, do Russians owe reparations to baltics, how about Finland and Poland. Roman’s did a lot of conquesting, and let’s talk Muslim hoards, plenty of opportunities for reparations there

Then there are the historical conquests of poland and their invasions

I have a theorem I call recentism
Recentism is a condition where one only goes back far enough to justify their complaint
IE. White man invaded their lands, killed, rapped, stole…, but what was going on before the white man arrived? They were warring, invading, killing, enslaving….each other

Mexicans demand back lands in US taken from them, uh okay exactly how did those lands become part of MEXICO in the first place ….

My grandparents fled Lithuania not from the Germans but the Russians and much of the remaining family was killed, displaced or disappeared, so since I had nothing to do with this except for a family history I DEMAND A CHECK….

My comment was in relation to the rise of hitler and WW1 reparations. If not for that we may well have never known his name.
