Poland has reiterated its claim on €1.3 trillion ($1.4tn) in damages caused by Germany’s invasion and occupation of its territory during the Second World War while making comparisons to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine that Berlin will likely find uncomfortable and has so far seemingly tried to ignore.
Germany should lead by example on the Ukraine war and settle accounts with neighbouring Poland, which it invaded and occupied between 1939 and 1945, causing terrible harm and subjecting the nation to the Holocaust, Polish Secretary of State for Europe Arkadiusz Mularczyk has said.

Not Poland's fault neither, that was all Joe Stalin.
That’sa good point actually.
The Soviet Union also occupied Eastern Austria, and only left after the Austrians put it in their Constitution that they would never be a member of NATO.
"Pay Up!"
Wish we could do the same with our Constitution...
I don’t know why they go on about this. I get that the history was awful. That said, its been over for almost 80 years. What’s next, should Germany claim back all the territory that is now Poland which was Germany and furthermore make claims for all the Germans who suffered ethnic cleansing and mass rapes and murder?
15 million Germans were ethnically cleansed from what is now Poland and Czechia - the largest recorded case of ethnic cleansing in history.
Who does it help to try to re-open old wounds? Let it go.
Does this mean Poland will give back the lands it got from Germany after WWII? (half of East Prussia and Germany east of the Oder River)
Sweden ravaged Poland, to a similar degree as Nazi Germany, during the 1650s.
“Germany paid no reparations”

Soviets dismantled entire German factories and shipped them back to the Soviet Union.
Poles have a point.
Another point is that if the German people and their economy had not been destroyed and looted for (effectively) reparations for WWI, WWII would never have happened.
Poland is an embarrassment. We'd already be involved in WW III if Duda had his way.
Punishing people because of the crimes their grandparents and great-grandparents may have committed is just crazy.
That’s not germane to the discussion.
Hey Poland. Germany did just that. As specified in the imposed peace accords, Germany provided Electric to many nations as requested or required for 99 years.
Poland got a huge chunk of land from Germany.
Besides that you were part of the USSR.
It’s easy to see why Europe has been in a near constant state of war the last 2,000 years. Everyone has some grievance, and in some cases, going back hundreds of years.
Germany was almost completely leveled in WW2. Those responsible for the horrors committed were systematically hunted down and executed. No one alive today carries any burden for what happened 80 years ago. The war’s long over...time to move on.
Putin said as much to the Poles that what Stalin gave can be taken away.
This rich coming from this Polish leader.... Poland at this moment on a two track attempt to go into Ukraine without negotiating with Ukraine first, the first of which is trilateral force of Lithuania, Moldovan and Poland or second a joint military force of “Free Ukrainian” and Poles.
Balkan Ghosts documents 400 years of pre-NATO war making in the former Yugoslavia.
If Poland wants to hand back former German territory in return for a bunch of money then they need to negotiate a real estate deal with Germany.
But this nonsense of demanding reparations eighty years after the fact is foolishness especially with German and Poland being in the EU together.
Now it’s more like the State of Georgia demanding reparations from New York over Sherman’s March to the Sea.
1950s...agreement was signed with Israel and W. Germany....3 billion DM’s were to transfer as ‘payment’. Far as Israel was concerned, the things were then settled.
