China’s economic recovery seems to have stalled, and the CCP’s standing at home still depends on Xi Jinping’s government creating a “Chinese dream” of a middle-class lifestyle. The end of Covid restrictions, just eight months ago, seemed to mark the start of a powerful bounceback in consumption; travel agencies were besieged by people booking holidays they had been denied for nearly three years. But in the past few months there have been more worrying signs. Youth unemployment is growing: about one in five of China’s 16- to 24-year-olds were unemployed in June. Many university graduates have had to take jobs as delivery drivers because no professional jobs are available, and social media is awash with images of hard-earned but seemingly useless degree certificates.
China is laying traps for itself. “Security” has become the key political term: the word anquan has the double meaning of “safety” in Chinese, giving it a reassuring ring. Yet the term covers a wide range of issues, not just traditional military or national security, but economic and even cultural security. Press reports about the huge debts of local governments have been censored and journalists threatened with prosecution for endangering financial stability.

Winnie wasn’t willing to make the trade of giving up control for freedom in exchange for greater wealth. There is a limit in all philosophies as to wealth they can create.
Trust not a word that comes from the leftist children at The Guardian.
It’s an attempt to prop up Brandon. “See what happened to China on my watch?”
Independent of the Guardian, many analysts think that China is entering its end stages for its political philosophy and economy. It’s on the way to decline.
If China were to free up its economy, it would surge further than it has, but that would mean uncertainty as the freed people of China started making decisions for themselves. However, that would come at the loss of being able to control people. Winnie and his government is unwilling to have a China Glasnost and so they are hitting the limits of what they can do.
RE: China’s race for growth is fading. So too is its dream of middle-class security.
I guess it’s time to refocus its efforts on something else to garner support from its citizens — WAR to take back Taiwan!
Cultural Revolution 2.0
China is run by “Democrats” so it will crash and burn.
They killed off all their critical and free thinking people, but it will catch up to them.
Numerous other analysts have made the point for years that due to demographic and structural limitations, China will grow old before becoming rich. India is more likely to prosper in the long run due to a better demographic balance and her democratic system and rule of law.
China is doing just fine.
However, what has ANY US president in the last fourty years, done to rebuild AMERICAN industry.
Every single leader in America has been selling America out.
Trump sort of tried, but even he could not turn things around. Hopefully he will have much better staff this time.
Everyone else is sold out to China.
Both parties.
Should we be afraid of the Hindus? They like us as much as the Brits. Play us off against the Russians. Maybe it’s good they have problems with the Moozlems.
How about that! Commies can’t effectively run a nation. Amazing. You’d think someone would try capitalism instead of control. But once you have that power, it’s hard to let go.
What’s your angle.
Everyone knows this is accurate and it’s not a scoop or unique from the Guardian.
“If China were to free up its economy, it would surge further than it has…”
If they dropped their claim and threats to Taiwan it would boom.
But Chicoms must have power in their mind.
Chicoms have always and only held China back.
China is doing just fine says no one ever except Chicom propagandists.
You’re right. The only think the Chicoms want is worldly wealth. They don’t care if their countrymen benefit.
My Angle, is that Brandon will try to take credit for China’s problems, and say that his policies vis a vis China are better than Trump’s.
Of course it doesn’t matter that he tanked the US economy right along with it.
China is gaining on America.
China is growing. America is not, except in Military spending, but China is (rapidy) getting more powerful
Hmmmm. The Chinese growth fell under 10% = doom, gloom, and imminent collapse.
US growth is in the negative covered by underreported inflation = Biden is going good.
Brandon does play like that and takes credit for the exact opposite.
