Climate scientists push for access to world's biggest supercomputers to build better Earth models

How quickly will Earth warm, and what will that mean for the planet? To answer those questions, researchers have spent decades building increasingly sophisticated global-climate models — but those models are straining the limits of available computing power.

Now a cadre of scientists is pushing for an ambitious solution: a network of next-generation modelling centres, dubbed Earth Visualization Engines (EVE), where hundreds of staff scientists would use the latest supercomputers to run ultra-high-resolution climate models at full scale. Such models are starting to come online, and many researchers think that they could markedly improve climate projections.

Climate simulations model the conditions inside the ‘cells’ of a 3D grid that wraps around a virtual Earth, often coupled with separate models representing components such as oceans and ice sheets. Many models run on a grid with cells that average 50–100 kilometres per side, but numerous teams around the world are developing higher-resolution models with grid cells of one kilometre or even less.

Studies have already shown that higher-resolution models can produce more realistic simulations of clouds, ocean eddies and more. Many researchers hope that these models can help resolve fundamental questions about the magnitude of global warming as well as details about the role of clouds, dust and air pollution.

Why do they even need a computer.. Just exaggerate and/or make crap up ..like they’ve been doing for the past 30+ years

why do they need access to better computers they have already determined ahead of time what they want the data to show!

Climate scientists

Oxymoron, predominantly.

(great photo, btw ;-)

I remember a story from a couple of decades ago about a computer climate modeling conference (in Hong Kong, I think). There were about 20 models. Six said serious global warming. The rest said little or no global warming, and a couple said global cooling. All the news reports said the global warming models won because they had more models in agreement than any other category.

Their god is AI. The fools with their false god think they can build a better world. How do we stop this nihilism?

Their current models don’t comport with the satellite data.

Well, if the models don't fit the data, then change the data. Of course. The models are superior. They comport with the narrative. And, we all know, the narrative is everything.

I tried to follow the science but it simply was not there.

Then I followed the money and that is where I found the science.

Clapping sound coming from Bernie Madoff’s box.

Like inviting the Mafia into some financial institution. All existing “models” involve using corrupt temp data and then jiggering the output to match desired conclusion.

Why? For same reason that tranny surgery and bullying succeeds: money.

Just as the laws of science dictate , "for every action , there is and opposite and equal reaction",

there is no doubt that for every " advance in intelligence and technology, there is an equal and opposite stupidity in its use"

Invention of computers/internet = you get Twitter, tik-tok,Facebook and the gates virus protection racket

amazing advances in Medical technology = COVID scamdemic

advances in satellite communication = Starlink

advances in oil production = shift to electric cars

there is no limit to the stupidity of science and technology

“use the latest supercomputers to run ultra-high-resolution climate models at full scale”

Well, that’s the fantasy. The reality is that we still cannot make an accurate “model” (which is just another name for a simulation) that represents the climate of the planet, at full scale or any other scale. We simply do not know all the variables in the equation, and that’s all a simulation is, at heart, an equation.

Building more detailed versions of our current flawed and inaccurate models will not get us more accurate results. Just more detailed versions of the same inaccurate results.

No matter how much computing power they throw at it, if it can’t go back 50-100 years and accurately predict today(which none of them can do), it will be total garbage;
