Bud Light is still reeling from the social media-led boycott against its brand.
The Bud Light controversy has proven to have legs; and for the second month in the row the once-dominant brand is taking a back seat to one of its biggest competitors.
Bud Light had been on a two-decade run as the country's most popular beer, but after the company decided to expand its marketing outreach with Dylan Mulvaney -- the transgender social media influencer at the center of the controversy -- a sustained boycott has cost the company its top spot.
For the second month in a row, Modelo Especial, which is a subsidiary of Constellation Brands (STZ) - Get Free Report, was the United States highest selling beer in June, garnering an 8.7% share of the beer market, well ahead of Bud Light's 7% second place share, according to Bump Williams Consulting.
Bud Light sales fell 28% in June from a year ago, compared to Modelo's 8.5% year over year increase. The boycott may even be leaking over to Budweiser, which saw sales fall 11.7% year over year.
Bud Light started the year with a 10.3% market share and had 10% of the market as recently as March 25, but the beer has seen a steady decline after offending loyal customers by involving Mulvaney as a spokesperson.
The political right has been able to sustain consumer furor over Bud Light, which is a subsidiary of international conglomerate Anheuser Busch InBev (BUD) - Get Free Report, for weeks, leading the company to backtrack and fire the ad executives responsible for partnering with Mulvaney.
The company's second quarter results and earnings call are about three weeks away, so there should be some clarity and hard figures concerning the boycott soon.
🤣
Yes! But someday, the transgendered will be the majority and then the normies will be sorry!
(well, that appears to be bud’s opinion anyway)
They might as well get used to it.
They will never again rise to be popular.
It’s pisswater anyway.
Come on guys, just three more weeks, we can do it. Go team.

Gezzers, that’s some influencer!
This is permanent.
They need to stop calling it a boycott as that suggests it can be reversed.
Everyone who stops drinking bud light is NEVER going back.
They need to end the brand and start a whole new brand with the same or similar formula. Like “Moodello” lol.
BUYCOTTS vs. ELECTIONS, one of these is FAKE.
who’s the snowbird
I think people realized it is not good beer.
I think people realized it is not good beer.
It’s not a boycott. They’ve simply rebranded themselves as the Beer of Queers!
That’s why it’s not going to stop any time soon.
Bud Light sales are down EVEN WITH promotional discounts that make it close to free.
So people are not buying it even though it’s cheap, and people who normally bought Miller or any of the other light beer brands are not trying it even with price discounts.
This is bad news for Bud, long term.
And now the #1 beer is Mexican? Anyone else find this a little disconcerting?
>>I think people realized it is not good beer.<<
I used to drink it. Pretty much identical to Miller Lite and Coors Light.
But their ESG score is just fabulous!
He lives down at Gulfstream now I think. Ultra private, great little golf course on the ocean. He earned it - the hard way.
If you don’t really know who he is, it’s Dick Yuengling.
