Six months after Hurricane Ian made landfall as a powerful Category 4 storm, people across Florida are still working to recover. As those efforts continue, state leaders and meteorologists are already looking ahead to the upcoming hurricane season.

Florida's executive director of the Division of Emergency Management, Kevin Guthrie, said the focus is always on how they can do things better.'

"How do we do a better job in the future of communicating storm surge watches and warnings?" Guthrie questioned. "We want people to focus on the cone, but at the same time, we've got to get some more focus on these watches and warnings outside of the cone and what exactly do they mean."

“As far as long-range looking at a potential development, that’s the big change; a five-day outlook is now a seven-day outlook,” FOX 13 Chief Meteorologist Paul Dellegatto said.

two more days of inaccurate forecast, that will fix it.

The weather rock is more accurate.

I’m pissed that we are supposed to go through a trend of less hurricanes due to El Niño. From 2006 to 2016, Florida was not hit by a major hurricane. I was hoping for a ten years of goodness. But no, the dang water is hotter the normal so we may be in for some badness. Cool the water would be nice.

I remember how they said climate change caused the 2005 hurricanes, then they didn’t say anything about ten years of no hurricanes.

How about announcing they are reversing the late-era White Hut rule change imposed on NOAA to name every storm the moment it inches above TD criteria, and to also lower TS criteria.

“National Hurricane Center announces changes ahead of upcoming 2023 season”

Let me guess, anything more than a 10 mph gust of wind will qualify as a hurricane, so therefore they can has increased 10 FOLD from just a few years ago.

“White Hut rule change imposed on NOAA to name every storm the moment “

By doing this insurance companies get a windfall. They deny standard claims the minute the storm is named.

They ought to work on improving the accuracy of their forecasts.

I suspect that the problem ulis one of trust, not communication.

Once when we were vacationing in Jamaica there was a decent storm. One of the staff there at the hotel told us not to worry, it was just a “hard breeze”. We have used that term ever since encountering it. Very apt so many times.

I still have some damage from Hurricane Ian. I am fixing it myself. The contractors and repair crews do shoddy work. I don’t want to have insurance rates go up for something I will tear out and redo.

The National Hurricane Center, National Weather Service, and NOAA need to get back to the basics, reporting weather and leaving out the editorializing, fear mongering, and climate hysteria.

Why don't we have hurricanes with apostrophes in their names?
