We’ve thought about trying to get the guns by stealth, but M-I-L is a bit paranoid and watches everything. I was lucky to get the extra car key, which was easy to access and pocket.

Ohdear. I don’t suppose there’s anyway that they (the in-Laws) could be taken to the doctor’s or somewhere else, while another person took the guns...

If he has an appointment already, they may not be suspicious.

Just thinking, of course. You will know what’s best if the time comes. Meanwhile, I’ll continue to pray for you all.

Talk to an attorney about the guns, or a knowledgeable FFL at your local gun shop. Simply removing them from the house without the knowledge of the lawful owner, even though you’re family, and have the most honorable of intentions, could blow up in your face if it is discovered, and your F-I-L were to phone it in to authorities as a theft of arms.

What actions on your part may be legal or not may be very different than you think, and being as the objects in view are the subject of reams of Federal Law, any hot water you may risk getting into is sure to be very deep.
