Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis almost quadrupled his net worth in a year, thanks to a seven-figure payday from his bestselling memoir, "The Courage to be Free."
The 2024 candidate's net worth as of December 31, 2022, was $1,174,331, according to documents he filed to the Florida Commission on Ethics ahead of a July 1 deadline. A year earlier, DeSantis' net worth was nearly $319,000. The lift in salary was largely thanks to a $1.25 million book advance DeSantis got from Broadside Books, the conservative arm of HarperCollins Publishing that is owned by Rupert Murdoch's News Corp.
Since filing his last financial disclosure, DeSantis lowered the amount he owes on his student loans slightly, from $21,284.92 to $18,628.66. The governor's financial disclosure became public on Friday evening, the same day that the Supreme Court struck down President Joe Biden's student loan forgiveness program.

You overlooked the key difference. Trump is already a billionaire. DeSantis would like to become a multi-millionaire like other politicians have done before him. And he knows of only one way to do that - make the wealthy donors happy.
And Trump actually made money because real people actually bought his book. It was a best-seller. The multi-million dollar book deals that politicians sign nowadays are little more than a vehicle for money laundering and getting around campaign contribution limits.

Exactly !
The idea that a guy with a sweetheart “book deal” is not establishment and GOPe is a joke.
In fact, DeSwamp is going to be more tightly controlled than usual because this book deal pays out the money year by year. (like a trust fund to an irresponsible heir where you done out the money little by little to keep them under control).
The DeSwamp fans should just come out of the closet and declare that they want to back to the 2015 GOP Bush dominated outfit that Trump burned down.
My comment was not in relation to salary. It was in relation to type of armed service.
“He owns no property. He owns no stocks.”
Really? That’s odd at his age and station in life. He doesn’t even own a home?
Just no compelling reason to pay off that bit of low-interest loan. He’s obviously got the resources to do so.
And for campaign purposes he probably should have by now.
Don’t listen to cowgirl. Desantis just came out with another anti-Trump ad that he is getting blasted for, Desantis wants to keep this up, keep hitting him.
I believe that’s why his niece is always bashing him. He wasn’t nice when it came to the inheritance. I’d be pissed off too.
It's not unusual for governors at all. They live in the governor's residence, so why would they want to have to pay for/maintain a second home for 4 or even 8 years?
Usually they can plan to move into a different home at the end of their term, but it did become an issue for Cuomo in NY recently, when he got prematurely tossed from office and had nowhere lined up at first. And I would imagine he is significantly more wealthy than DeSantis, based on his family name/fortune.
