Harvard University hinted that it will turn to application essays to preserve its system of racial preferences in admissions, after the Supreme Court struck down the school’s race-based system as unconstitutional.
While the Court rejected affirmative action, Harvard president Lawrence S. Bacow noted that it also "ruled that colleges and universities may consider in admissions decisions ‘an applicant’s discussion of how race affected his or her life, be it through discrimination, inspiration, or otherwise.’"
"We will certainly comply with the Court’s decision," Bacow and other Harvard administrators wrote in a Thursday statement.
Harvard president-elect Claudine Gay released a video statement saying that the school was still "working to understand this decision and its implications for our policies."
"While we don’t have all the answers about what’s next, we do know that we will move forward together," she said.
The essays could provide a loophole for advocates of race-based admissions, some of whom have vowed to fight the ruling. In a speech on Thursday, President Joe Biden said "we can’t let this decision be the last word" on affirmative action, and said he would direct the Department of Education to come up with alternatives to ensure racial diversity on college campuses.
But the move could also violate the Court’s ruling, which held that college admissions essays could not be used directly as a tool to continue race-based admissions.

If they’re going to require applicants to write an essay on their life experience as a minority, that’s in direct violation of the ruling.
Racial quotas won’t end until college presidents are perp walked off campus in hand cuffs for violating the civil rights of Americans.
The price for college admission essays just went up quite a bit! Of course, ChatGPT is going to cut into that business at least somewhat.

The court should ban essays. Multiple choice only, or fill in the blank.

Here’s the deal with this “essay” thing.
Now, someone has to read and evaluate the essay. If it is written in Ebonics or has many grammatical errors, or just doesn’t make sense or isn’t true, then the one reading it and evaluating it will be held accountable if the applicant is ACCEPTED.
If the evaluator has integrity, the application will be denied.
You CAN’T DO THAT WITH A CHECK MARK IN A BOX.
So, the biggest liar, who can create the biggest victim story, gets in.
Oh stuff it. A whole lot of us here are completely fed up with these people and their incessant “grievances”.
And just for the record, when did the word “Negro” become racist? Would it have been okay if she said she was tired of “blacks with chips on their shoulders?”

My essay will start with the words, “I WAS BORN A POOR BLACK CHILD”!
I will just ignore the fact that my ancestors left PRUSSIA in the 1870’s.
UC Irvine, Cal and UCSD are mostly Asian I think but not the other 6 campuses. Some are mostly Latino (Merced, Riverside and Davis). I think UCSB and UC Santa Cruz are mostly white but just barely. UCLA has more blacks than the others.
