American Opinion: Can Doug Burgum save the Republican Party from Donald Trump?
West Central Tribune ^ | June 26, 2023 | Opinion by The Forum Editorial Board

Posted on 06/28/2023 5:20:20 PM PDT by ConservativeInPA

Lots of people have been scratching their heads since Doug Burgum jumped into the presidential nomination contest in a crowded field towered over by a seemingly invincible Donald Trump.

Polls show Trump far ahead of his rivals even though a jury in a civil trial concluded that he sexually assaulted a woman. Even though Trump has been indicted for false business records involving hush money paid to a porn film actress. Even though Trump has been indicted for purloining hundreds of classified documents, including nuclear secrets.

Republicans seem determined to nominate Trump, a deeply damaged, fatally flawed candidate who has been a disaster for the party despite his fluke electoral college victory over Hillary Clinton in 2016.

Given all of that, why is Burgum entering the race? He’s hardly a MAGA acolyte, eager to join in the culture war battles that have so captivated Republican voters.

And outside his home state, likely less than 1% know who he is, fewer probably know he’s running for president.

...and so we hear about CLOWNS like this guy, along with the others who are competing for the title of “Closest to 1% without going over”, but still NOT A WORD about RFK Jr., who now has higher numbers, in the Democrat Primary, than DeSantis does in the Republican Primary.

Once people on our side understand why this is happening, then then Trump will have NO PROBLEM winning.

Keep posting that fact.

Republicans seem determined to nominate Trump

If they are talking about the Republican base, then that statement is accurate. If the are taking about the GOPe, they are wrong. The GOPe, wants to regain control, which is why they assisted the Democrats in the election theft of the 2020 election cycle, as well as, the 2022 midterm election cycle.

If they continue down this path, they will find they will never regain support in future elections. If they are willing to capitulate to regain control of the party, they will succeed, but it will mean death to the Republican Party. If they want to fight against their base, the base will go elsewhere, and thus the Republican Party will lose every election going forward. For there is no incentive for the base to support a party that doesn't support their base, and the base is rapidly coming to that conclusion.
