BMI IS RACIST!
Well the BMI was created to be able to write people off as “beyond help”. That was a hobby of early 19th century science, finding a scientific explanation for why some people aren’t worth caring about. Phrenology comes from the same school. This is why the BMI doesn’t differentiate between fat and muscle. Big people are big people, whether “muscle bound dolts” or “lazy fatsos” doesn’t really matter. Their BMI is above X therefore they are worthless. And some races are more likely to have a large BMI than others.
So, really, saying the BMI is racist isn’t far from the truth. And getting rid of it is a very good thing.

Some of us who actually have lives & don’t peruse FR all day appreciate articles like this being posted closer to the top.

We cut cable years back so this is the first I actually heard of this. And why I posted it.
Life does not (or should not) revolve around the latest news story on the 24/7 networks. If it does for some here, I feel bad for them.

Why not find a way to scan a photo of the patient into ChatGPT and have it rate the fattiness level.
BMI has been a joke for years, especially in the military. You have a lot of massively muscular folks that BMI broke the chart but BMI was the “gold” standard for weight control for some medical folks. If a guy was 215 and 10% body fat he was obese. Most athletes ignore BMI ratings.

The sad things about the end of fat shaming and promotion of slender people in ads on tv and magazines is that overweight children and adults are far more prone to heart attack, stroke, diabetes, joint damage, gout, high blood pressure and other problems.
Putting overweight people as examples of normal on TV ads and elsewhere puts people at risk.
When will the recording of body temperature and blood pressure at medical facilities become regarded as racist? What about blood sugar readings for diabetics? What about ultra-sound readings to determine fetal gender? Will MRI readings be considered gender neutral?
The consumption of opossum and sweet potatoes will identify racial preference.

Well, BMI isn’t an accurate measure of body health, but it has nothing to do with racism. It’s just a poor standard that needs to be updated or replaced.
