The Navy likely knew it imploded but could not come out and say.
I would be very surprised and disappointed if the Navy didn’t know it imploded. The sea floor is supposedly littered with devices to detect submarines trying to be as silent as possible. Titan imploding probably made a pretty big noise. And I understand the Navy not wanting to disclose their capabilities.

I had a sonarman tell me that the sensors in the North Atlantic can hear a Russian Alpha Sub leaving port in Vladivostok. Alphas are very noisy but still that’s halfway around the world. Might be a sea story. But still.
