It’s likely they never new they were dead. At that pressure it could’ve taken just 1 ms for the implosion and it takes humans much longer to react to stimulus. Hey are fortunate on that level. They were alive and then suddenly didn’t exist.
Who thought using laminated carbon fiber was a great idea for a deep sea submersible? Seriously.
