When Americans think about conflict with China, Taiwan comes to mind first.
Yet there’s a front off our shores as well, in the Caribbean.
Visit almost any island in the region, and you’ll confront evidence of Beijing’s reach.
Ten Caribbean nations participate in the “Belt and Road” initiative — Grenada, Jamaica, the Dominican Republic, Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, Dominica, Trinidad and Tobago, Guyana, Suriname and of course Cuba.
These states owe much of their modern infrastructure, from roads and ports to energy and telecommunications, to Beijing’s patronage.
In Antigua, China Civil Engineering Construction Corp. built a new terminal for VC Bird International Airport.
In Jamaica, China Merchant Port Holdings owns the Port of Kingston outright.
Another Chinese company, Hutchison Ports, holds a controlling stake in the port complex at Freeport in the Bahamas.
Solar panels, health clinics, sports stadiums — Beijing underwrites them all.
“Chinese development banks offered a less time-consuming process than Western-dominated multilateral lending institutions, demanded less transparency and disclosure, and were often willing to supply credit at below market interest rates,” explains Scott B. MacDonald in a recent report for the Jamestown Foundation.

Our own deep-state made the Monroe Doctrine irrelevant when they did things like getting involved in coups in Ukraine, occupying oil wells in the remote Syrian desert, or aggressively promoting absurd social engineering like homosexual marriage in Africa or Eastern Europe.
We are weak and leaderless. Weakness always invites aggression. That's what stupid, dope smoking American liberals cannot comprehend.
> Our own deep-state made the Monroe Doctrine irrelevant <
Yep. The Monroe Doctrine had two parts. Europe was not to interfere in the Americas. And in return, we would not interfere in Europe.
Anyway, a “doctrine” has value only to the extent that we are able and willing to enforce it. In 1938 Hitler realized that Britain and France would not enforce the Munich agreement. So off he went, doing whatever he felt like.
China is motivated, and doesn’t view self interest as some sort of unspeakable evil.
America is corrupt, with a public more worried about killing the unborn and letting men dominate women in sports.
I don’t see any way that China doesn’t end up eclipsing this country.
.
China is simply waltzing in, without a care, because Biden is a bought and paid for wimp.
“I don’t see any way that China doesn’t end up eclipsing this country.”
China is FAR more corrupt on every level and not transparent at all. There is no national unity and the only “motivation” there is to steal as much as possible.
The problem is innovation is not rewarded and opening a business is nearly impossible without corruption taking you down. Then if you do become successful by some miracle you’ll disappear if you say anything the party doesn’t like. Their best and brightest have been leaving and taking as much money as possible OUT of China for generations.
The only ones remaining are corrupt party fatcats and workers too poor to leave. Even the richest fatcats send all their children to Europe and the USA away from the nonsense.
Same exact issue in Russia and it’s a house of cards. Everything is corrupt and everything is stolen at every step in the supply chain. The only reason the USSR had any power during the cold war is complete control of media and they shot anyone attempting to leave or send assets out of the country.
Of course we have our problems and see attempts by some of OUR politicians to make the USA more like them but it’s not nearly the same level of corruption and we still have a very solid chance to fight back.
Globalism is Communism incognito.
“They’re not bad folks, folks!”
To compete with them, we are selling our companies to China.
We should be tarriffing the heck out of China and protecting our own industries
You are wrong! Suburbs around DC are among the richest in the country. The demented fool is a multi-millionaire, and kongress is also. They know what they are doing. It is the stupid American voters to blame here.
Thank you for educating me. Watching the administration and the people around me it’s easy to get overly negative.
For example,
Our duly elected whores in congress lie down for $10K
No, it is never erelevent.
Unlike the dolts who lead us, the Chinese are long range planners.
