I spent 15 years with the New York State Police both in rural and suburban zones within Troops and in NYC. We were always alone on Day and Evening tours (before we went to 12 hour tours) and only “Doubled up” at 11pm. It’s a manpower issue

We used to live in NY and the NYS Troopers always conducted themselves in a very professional manner. I don’t ever recall the kinds of scandals involving them that other agencies had. I had more respect for them that almost any other police agency.

I always enjoyed the demos at the NYS Fair, as well.
